I wonder why both throttle bodies failed. Sounds like a interesting fault.

Similar failure on most modern E-throttle cars would be similar.

I thought the bill was about what you'd expect?
Why do people buy older high tech, high performance cars that were originally very expensive and expect them to cost the same as a Toyota Corolla to service and repair?
sw20,

Because they cost the same to buy as a Toyota Corolla

2008 M3 around $30K, 2008 'roller well below a third of the price?

M3 is a lovely car, I raced one in my Legacy once, couldn't touch him, he was right down the road with a lot of smoke coming out his exhaust. M3 is one of BMW's most coveted badges, they take them very seriously, the convertable ones look very nice.
Place on invoice has a good reputation. Actually feel sorry for them they lost their wshop in a fire a couple years back. Glad they back and operating again. They have a rep for fixing those nasty faults that others cannot.

I have owned a BMW M6 for 5 years. Apart from an anual service. I have spent zero dollars on it. V10 power house.

If you are going to own one of those then you cannot expect cheap trouble free motoring. Why do you think that MBI providers charge huge premiums or refuse cover at all on specialist performance cars? The thing is probably chomping oil and is firing vast amounts of oil laden blowby into the electronics of the ETB's and killing them.

Lucky you. Ticking time bomb. I had an E61, least reliable car I've ever owned.

There is an old saying down here in the auto world, if you cannot afford a new Euro, then you cannot afford a secondhand one.

I’ve owned 14 older second-hand High mileage Euro cars from various makers including 7 BMW and they have all been fantastic value and perfectly reliable.
However, I’m quite happy with the terrible reputation they have here as it means I can buy and drive awesome vehicles at great prices, so you guys carry on.

Apart from early Mini Coopers, when it was a case of when the engine wears out, get another. When the bodyshell craps out, get another.
Apart from the 100% restoration on the 1970 GT and the 1956 project, only a couple of older cars have needed a little work and all Euros.
High mileage MG Metro with 250,000kms on the clock only needed a flexible piece of pipe in the exhaust system and the high mileage MG Montego Turbo only needed a piece of $5 hose. Bu they are not sophisticated cars.
Buy anything high mileage fitted with a load of electronic gubbins and you so so at your peril.

No idea what you’re on about. My post above is the first (possibly 2nd?) one like it. Have only ever used one username.

The bit that gets omitted is that each one of them has had to go straight to the wreckers because of an uneconomic problem at the end of this Fantastic Ownership Experience. It was otherwise unsaleable.

funny that. when i worked at a wreckers there were NO euro's, a few aussie clunkers, and the other 100 were jap. do you want to rethink your statement?
budgel,

I think that just reflects the numbers that were sold.

What year did you work at a wreckers?

Lol because once again, most wreckers dont want them either! It's generally only specialists that buy them in.

Appears to be highly inflated prices on that invoice ! Good old $300 thermostat. What's the $25 local freight fee for ? Did they put the thermostat in a taxi? And $1800 per actuator !? I'd be getting a second opinion on that price !
