Why do cars have trip meter A and B ?

horses7, Jul 21, 5:43am
So you can tell how far you have gone on a tank of gas on A and how far you have travelled on a journey on B

One can record since fill up and other a trip, or one to a destination on a trip and the other the whole trip etc etc.

also useful to monitor fuel consumption on averages per scheduled trip ,real useful! ie towing a trailer on same trip v 3 passengers .just good to know .if used to doing average say 8litres per 100kms and then say same trip a year later fuel consumption reads 14 litres/100kms use maybe time for that overdue tune up .ie new airfilter .sparking plugs, throttle body clean etc.

Reset A and B when filling the tank totally.

A will record how far the tankful has lasted.

Reset B when the low fuel light comes on and learn what range is possiible when the gauge reads E for enuff.

My Toyota lights up when 11 or 12 litres remain, no need to panic until more than 160km are racked up.

Some cars even reset one of the trip meters when you out gas in.

? Which ones ? normally the gas usage /diustance to go on the tank is seperate readings . not the trip meter
