That sounds like a good quote,,, Back in the day we got a complete exhaust from manifold to tail, pipe for $40.00 using bits out of the bin. It was a ford 10 and we layed it on its side for the garage to work under it.

Ummm. wreckers & just pay for fitting?

Waste of time mate. These vans are 35 years old, most are gone now and if you are lucky enough to find one, the pipe on it is just as shagged as what I already had.

Quote was good, final amount was a bit more eye watering. I was a bit pissed off that I wasn't informed prior that it was going to end up significantly more expensive. Hell of a surprise to drop it on you at pick up. Lucky for them I'm aware and understanding that things don't always go to plan, but I reckon some people might've hit the roof over that.

Maybe they should give verbal estimates based on the worst case, instead of best case scenario. Tell you to allow $500.

Well I take my earlier comments back. Friggen repair is leaking like a sieve already ffs. Right back to square one, only I'm $465 out of pocket. (Pretty sure I've been screwed over too) Now I've got to take time out of my day to return it for rectification, and I won't be expecting another bill either. Not such a 'beautiful repair' after all.

What do ya gotta do these days to find people who actually know what the hell they're doing? Bunch of amateur school leavers in the trades these days. All the skilled old timers have retired. Tis the reason I do as much myself as possible.

Sadly that was always going to happen when there is poor management attitudes, insufficient training and too many people trying to undercut each other. Tell them to come and collect it in their time, not yours.

Yep but a few would have had replacement pipes in that time, some possibly in the last few years.
Theres possibly other models with the same pipe setup as well, or with minimal mods.
Sometimes you get lucky & other times you pay through the nose

Ha, ha.

Apparently because "The leaded gas leaves an acid deposit which rusts the exhaust from the inside out. . Lead from pump gas, this exhaust system rusting was widespread"

gph1961, Sep 9, 12:53am
and sometimes the flux capacitor leaks into the exhaust system which doesnt help
