Can I buy a specific amount of RUC?

henry284, Jan 26, 1:08am
Currently my RUC renews every XXX,313km

I'd like to purchase either 687km or 1,687km to round this over to easy to remember increments. Has anyone done this before?

Online you purchase them in 1,000km lots, i.e. 1000km = 1 unit. Try entering in 0.687 units and see how you get on.

Error: Units must be a digit between 1 and 99

Bugger, only sold in multiples of 1,000 online

same offline also-

Would it be possible to wait until your odometer reads a round figure, then purchase the units. You can purchase more any time you want as far as I know.

In that case 0.687 wont work but did you try 1.687?

kazbanz, Jan 26, 5:15am
Nope-it st5arts from where last lot of RUC ran out not odo reading

Another question- if you have just put another 10,000 RUC kms on your vehicle and then want to sell it, can you credit/transfer say 5000 of those onto your new vehicle?

s_nz, Jan 26, 6:38am
Only if the vehicle is permanently destroyed, exported or has it's rego canceled.

That said, the RUC's will have value to the buyer. Advertise that it included 5,000km RUC's worth $340.

nop and no one wants to pay you extra for ruc . its lost money or a vague extra value for selling

monaro17, Jan 26, 7:08am
Bugger. Thanks for those replies

No you can not. I traded i vehicle in that still had 10,000 rucs and i got a resounding No. They would only refund if the vehicle is deregistered.

tygertung, Jan 27, 6:30pm
Seems like a scam, as how did it get an odd number of RUC on it in the first place?

dolsen, Jan 27, 7:02pm
Also, at least a few years ago, even when the vehicle was deregistered, they would not refund the unused ruc to me as it hadn't been brought within the last few years. So, they kept the money for the ruc that they knew would not be used.

absolute_detail, Jan 27, 8:03pm
Simple really, when a used car is imported its odometer is not at a round number and the ruc starts from whatever its displaying. Ruc is only sold in units of 1000km

tygertung, Jan 27, 9:29pm
That makes sense. If it were NZ new it would have an even reading maybe.

skull, Jan 27, 9:41pm
NZ New would be a low reading but not a zero, mine's NZ new and had 16km on it when first registered for RUC so all my RUC stickers since then have ended in a 16.

I accidently discovered how to change the end 3 numbers for RUC. Get a WOF check done with expired RUC, when the ODO reads ***000. You will get a payment demand for the expired portion. And when you buy more RUC, the new labels will start from the exact amount that was written down on the WOF check sheet.

Yes, and you cant buy any more RUC until that invoice has been paid, a red flag is put on that vehicle on the computer system until such time as the invoice is paid.
