Easy change from COF to WOF?

Looking to buy a late model Hiace jumbo, the van currently have 14 seats and a COF. Is it a mission to change this to WOF (once a year), I don't mind if I have to reduce the seats to get the WOF.

What is the procedure and cost for this changeover -if possible?

Check the GVM (will be displayed on one of the windscreen cards). If this is 3500kg or less, my understanding it this is easy. if over 3500kg it needs to stay on a COF (it is basically infeasible to re-rate the vehicle to carry less load.).

I have never done it, but for light vehicles it is a very common change for ex-taxi's and ex-rentals. Never seems to be a big deal. Some sources just say that you simply take the car for a WOF inspection.

What he said ^^^^^ Under 3500GVM is just a matter of doing the WOF and noting the change. Over 3500 no go

To get a cof on a wof only hiace jumbo (which came as 16seaters),we were always required to remove two seats to get the cof,so if any thing, for private use you dont need to remove any seats.

you can not change from cof to wof if the vehicle is 1 milligramm above 3500kg. only 3500kg or lower total waight can ever have a wof and cof. So be warned there is a ton of stuff who needs Cof always .

a guy i know had a vehicle on cof with 3550kg. He was going to easy change that to wof and remove the 50 kg. no you wont. The original factory will have to rerate it in his case a daihatsu delta i think it was . The factory dont exists and you can be sure no factory who does not know they ever made the vehicle s going to revin it for 50kg less. He found out the hard way. Stuff with cof should cost peanuts , its only because people dont know this trap or no one would buy any of them and they would only sell for peanuts. I sure as hell dont go buy one to have a ultra exortion Cof on top of it cof can only be done by the thugs for ultra extortion money if you dont know go do research.

It will have to remain on CoF if all the seats remain in it, if its over 12 seats it's an MD2 class. You could only put it back onto WoF after removing two seats and getting the class changed to MD1. It seems unlikely it would have a GVM >3500kg the seating quantity would be the only reason it's on CoF.

Add to that unless of course it's currently a rental or a taxi.

Im curious about that. not digging into your reply but genuinely curious. We used to get those 14 seater Jumbo Hiaces and they would get complied etc and have only a wof issued as all the vehicles were sold for private use.No COF at all. However we would at times have customers wanting to buy them for commercial use and wanted a COF before purchase,so the van would go to VTNZ and they would require us to remove two seats (amongst a few other things) to get a COF.This was way back in 2017 and before.
Has something changed that all vans more than 12 seats must have a COF?
Looking forward to your reply to feed my mind.Thank you.

No you are actually correct, that rule has changed since I last looked at it. What I posted used to be the case, so yes it is now permissible for MD2 (buses with more than 12 seats) in private use to be on WoF as long as they are below 3.5T. Thank you for highlighting that.

Ok so the likes of a Toyota Coaster as a house bus approx 4500GVM with the two seats up front and probably only another 3 or 4 in the rear would definitely be COF or could it be a WOF since most of the seats would be removed?

over 3500kg and 1 milligramm over is only ever c.o.f
i had a 1988 iveco 3510 it was 3500kg rated with tail lift and 2 meter by 4 meter box. it had a 950kg load capacity. i fitted my uno fiat in the back to load it as you have to get it loaded for wof in switzerland uno diesel was 920kg they check it all there including brake fluid for water.
I did not bring that over as it was left hand steering.
Gvm gross vehicle mass i think thats what gvm stands for is what cant be changed unless the original manufacturing factory recertifies it to be something else. and we all know that will never ever . ever happen. if it did it be 2.5 million dollers or more where you could buy 200 other vehicles instead.
i look since years for ones below 3.5 ton and from below 2000 year you can find some but they all need a 6 month wof . you have to carjam them what i do is look if the diesel have a hubometer if they do then they are cof as you also need a hubo for ruc with cof.

other then that sellers like to hide the fact that what they sell needs to go thru expensive C.O.F . as they should be close to worthless in reality as sale price.
What they do do is say you can drive it on car driver license. that rings my warning will robinson C.o.f maybe required bell on.

That was not to do with the number of seats but gaining easy access to the rear of the van, the seats that had to be removed were to allow easier access from the sliding door.

It will be a COF as the vehicle weighs over 3500kg, number of seats only comes into it if its used as a commercial passenger vehicle.
