i have a 2002 GSX1200 im going to list on here,
Last vehicle i sold here i under valued and it sold in less than 30seconds,
Dont want to make that mistake again, lol
Its been on hold for 5 yrs, has light superficial damage from being dropped, but would tidy up well.
Was wondering where i should start price wise?
Any advice appriciated

Last few ive seen have been around 4k. Is it a GSX1200Y? How many KMs etc. Any extras? Even colour good dictate price.
Look at its rivals of same era, Bandits,, CB1000s and the Yamaha 1300s etc. Good thing is its post 2000.

As a buyer , i would be thinking do i get the damaged fixed , or just ride it , they all go down 1 way or another . The tryes are going to be more than 5 years old , they may pass a wof but still be nasty to ride on . Battery , servicing brought up to date , all fluids including suspension , swingarm and linkage needle bearings cleaned greased and possibly new seals , condition of chain and sprockets . Is the tank rusty from sitting etc etc If you have to pay some1 to do the work $$$ add up pretty quick . Like anything its worth as much as some1 want to pay . if you sold something quick doesn't necessarily mean you sold to cheap , may be the price was right and that's just what the buyer was after and actively looking . I refresh latest listings of what i like anytime i am near my laptop to help feed a aprilia addiction . Early bird gets the worm . Are there any forums for Gsx 1200s at all , might be another angle . Good luck with it .

If you get a wof and rego for it, you will get a lot more for it.

Often the best way is to put on $1 reserve and that way you get a lot more interest in it.

Works good when Joe Blog and co don't know when to stop . See so many with not even 1 question asked .

By GSX1200 do you mean the Inazuma -the one that looks like the gsxs from the 70s and 80's or the SS that's styled after the plastic fantastic Croz used to race?

gusthe1, Oct 9, 9:46pm
I looked at an inazuma some months ago. Listed at 3. 5k. Nice bike, yoshi pipe. He refused my lowball offer but it sold shortly after.

Im thinking its the Inazuma as well or I think Y was at the end at times. The other is a GS1200SS and they have quite a big a cult following in japan. Good bikes those, I had one from new.

What about if other prospective buyers ring you up and abuse you after you've sold it (too cheap)? Some people get a bit aggro when they miss out.

Im away from home this weekend , will add details when i get back,
The other vehical i sold was a older bighorn with motor damage, i had no sooner clicked on"start your auction" when within 10 secs my phone rang,
He bought it sight unseen over the phone there and then,
Of course i got more calls telling me i had sold it far to cheap, my fault for not asking on here first

Im away from home this weekend, looking at the pics on google, yes it certainly looks like the inazuma

nzshooter01, Oct 10, 6:15pm
I wouldnt be brave enough to go down the $1 route

desmodave, Oct 10, 6:36pm
Dude , you are on the end of a bloody phone , does that really scare and intimidate you . I hope you don't feel sorry for scammers , they get abused , sometimes they even complain i am abusing them . They get some more and hang up . I am being calling you from windows , fark off d s n c . As ya were .

Im guessing you have a bike , what's your take on wof inspection . Would be 15+ years since any inspector has road tested any of my bikes . Last time any inspector did , they asked me what the gears were . 1 down 5 up i say . He selects 2nd gear , slips the clutch to ride out the front door around the workshop and back in through the rear door . Test over and here's ya sticker . If the tyres are good and your lights and indicators operate , fork seals not leaking , your good to go by the looks of things. I think a lot of inspectors are more worried about dropping ya bike . They may have got their bike license years ago , but not ridden for the last 20 . If you happen to have a motorcycle shop handy that does wof's i think they would be more knowledgeable in making sure things are as they should be .

Just had a look myself as have never heard of the Inazuma . Looks very much like a Yamaha xjr1300 . A lot of bike for very little .

gusthe1, Oct 10, 8:00pm
I think the xjr came out just after and had fuel injection which improves those motors so much. Few more ponies than the sooki too.

I sold a VFR800 several years ago for what I felt was a fair price. Shortly after got a call from someone who got really uptight and sweary when I told him I'd sold it. I wasn't scared and intimidated, just a bit bemused. And it was only a VFR, so not like it was going to improve his chances with women or anything.

Ha, reminds me of the time I sold a top end workstation gfx card for a song on here. I just couldn't be f'ed, was having a clean out. Got a string of abuse from some knob in the comments about fake ads to drive the price down or some other such BS. He was ringing TM to complain etc etc etc. I dubbed him "inspector clueless" and told him to f.o.

kazbanz, Oct 11, 4:47am
whenya think about it the big four all came out with these retro bikes about the same time. Kawasaki had their zephrs to z bikes Honda had their CB 750 and cb1100 Yamaha their xjr 1300 and Suzuki the inazuma 750 and 1200

I have sold more than a few vehicles, some stuffed, some great. Always $1 reserve and never disappointed. A couple of times shocked at how high a price I got. Never below average market value.

As soon a someone bids that gets an emotional attachment and logic can go out the window.

nzshooter01, Oct 19, 7:36am
Listed bike at 2pm today sold at 4pm,
He was happy i was happy, good result

Well I am comfortable personally ensuring my bikes are sufficiently safe to ride as I am an Aircraft Engineer by trade (full time parent now), and used to race small motorcycles so used to build them up from the ground, but for the average person who just rides, the check should probably be a bit more thorough as they are relying on it for safety.

Although in saying that, a motorcycle is a pretty simple machine, as long as the tyres are good, the suspension isn't too bouncy, and the brakes are OK, it should be alright.

Actually I think the main problem is tyres. Often they can have sufficient tread, but actually be really dangerous. I bought a Yamaha RZ350 which had "Challenger by Kenda" tyres on it, and it was really dangerous, especially in the wet. I think in the first 3 or 4 gears it would wheel spin in a straight line, which was a bit weird.

Once motorcycle tyres get a bit old they can be quite risky to ride on, and when the profile is squared off, they feel horrible.

1 Bike i bought x Japan with 5552km on it still passed compliance with 15 year old rubber . Its 1 question i ask when buying as it will effect my offer . Nothing like a fresh set of rubber to start with . Glad sale went well op .

I remember the Suzuki Katana coming out in the early 1980's. No one had ever seen such a bike before and took the world by storm.
Seen a few 750 Katanas now and again, but the 1100 is quite rare now.
Stunning machine and well ahead of it's time.
