Sunday 27 Dec. Once again the traffic was backed up for many k’s either side of Tirau. When will this ‘grey power Mecca’ be by passed to keep traffic moving - after all it is SH1.

Use SH27 instead of 1 & take SH24 at Matamata.

There was a plan about 25 years ago to bypass it on the western side but there was the usual stink from farmers and shop owners so it got binned. I am pretty sure the plans will still be there on the back burner. I used to deliver milk there back then.

After looking at the map, it would sure make sense to make the bypass.

We were visiting family in Cambridge. We live Rotorua. We went through Tirau at 10.30am and returned through at 2.30pm. Long, long almost stationary queues either side at both times.

I saw pegs in the ground for the bypass 35 years ago.
It’s been on paper for a lot longer than that
27 is supposed to cut through the Tirau golf course and bypass Tirau, putaruru and Tokoroa.
The bypass for coming from Rotorua is already kind of there.
It’s the street closest to the overhead rail bridge that’s supposed to be a main road, eventually

Totally agree - far less of a job than Te Puke - eventually I suppose it will happen but probably not in my lifetime.

It's easy enough to avoid

Went through this morning, long que up past the golf course but it was worse southern end of the Cambridge express way where it changes to one lane and traffic leaving cambridge trying to merge. It wont improve there once the whole bypass is complete.

I suppose at the end of the day the problem is the rapid increase in population. and still rising. Too many people = too many cars + Inadequate roading system.
By the next public holiday weekend at least another 10,000 returnees will be settled back into NZ.

Helicopter with an ubco if it will fit in the back, as transportation if you arrive at your destination.
Vision Zero 2.0 - Sweden 14:50 Swedish road designers (2017)tried to remove the ability of cyclists to cycle on country roads, to make the country roads safer. https://youtu.be/7kIFegy4fII?t=790
Avoid Tirau by cutting back to Putaruru and drive up the west side of lake karapiro?

Can't be bothered looking up road names on my phone. Just use Google maps with data enabled it's easy to avoid traffic jams.

I can’t think of a quicker way
But for a change perhaps
Rotorua to okoroire Oko back onto 27 on Mains road Totmans road onto 29 Then tototoroa road gets you close to Cambridge, and past all the worst bits.
