I’ve just had an aftermarket reversing camera fitted to a new Suzuki Jimny. The image on the screen doesn’t show the normal grid (distance) indicators that I expected. The supplier says they don’t have them. Can anyone advise if that is correct as all I’ve ever seen have them.

Crystal ball broken today. Make, model etc info might help.

Highly likely it doesn't. Most of that stuff isnt up to OEM standard, I would have fitted a genuine camera kit if such a thing was available from Suzuki. Bit odd these days its not standard or at worst a factory fitted option.

The unit was supplied and installed by Suzuki at a cost of $495. I feel now that they should at least have told me of its deficiency.

It's not a deficiency, it lacks a feature you assumed you were going to get but didn't ask for and weren't told you were going to get.

Did you ask them before installation? Not all accessories are created equal, if its otherwise fully functional as a camera and there are no problems with its installation its not their problem. Screen guidelines are just that, they're not an absolute indicator of anything, it will say so in the instructions!

Perhaps one of the boxes in its operating system is not ticked , my Volvo one is like that you can switch items on and off .

+1 i have seen very few aftermarket cameras that have the lines.

On some aftermarket setups its done on the head unit side - on some of the Pioneer units you can even adjust them to match the angle of the camera

I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara which has a factory (Garmin infotainment) in-dash system including a reversing camera. it doesn't have grid lines either. I use the tow ball visible in the bottom to help guage close distance.

that suggests to me it’s a cheap head unit from China. Real price about $300 rip it out and put a decent JVC head unit where the lines can be turned on or off . Pleas note they don’t ever turn with the wheel like in a factory unit

Volvo reverse cameras move with the wheel

Yeah Kaz was saying factory units sometimes turn with the wheel (sometimes they don't, depends on brand and trim level)
