just wait till you need parts. i looked at a merc the guy wanted 5k with limp mode. i would have only take it for free after he spent 10 grand on mercedes north fixing symptoms but not the problem.

Where did you buy? What did you get? Only junk on TM for that sort of coin.

My mate is service manager at a independent Euro workshop. He bangs his head all the time at the lack of parts available for Merc vans. MB NZ don't care either.

eBay has most things.

Is your purchase a one-off sale? If not, how about posting a link so we can all take advantage of the situation.

Find a Ducato based one, there is a lot out there and you won't regret it.

Front wheel drive though.

Some people's idea of a fully kited out camper is a van on it's last legs with a piece of ply and a cheap mattress to sleep on, a 20 litre drum of water and a toilet six inches away from the bed.

Apparently the AA checked it out, so how bad can it be?

Now now, play nice!

tygertung, Nov 17, 11:57pm
Did they check it and say it was a goldie, or a dud?

Yes the front wheel drive is a big advantage. Far better traction and handling with the weight of the motor over the driven wheels and with no driveshaft the floor and center of gravity is much lower.

and all ALKO Australia built behind the cab so easy to get parts

xs1100, Nov 18, 7:27am
just the later ones are a pain to fit a towbar too (get certified) so if it has one thats a huge bonus

I used to have a RWD van, it was useless. It was unable to go up some wet grass with an almost imperceptible slope. Would wheelspin when taking off around a corner. It really needed to have extra weight in the back, but that would be a waste of diesel.

Have driven a Fiat Ducato by Burstner , Ixeo 726G for more than 5000 kms and can not fault front wheel drive. Also the engine management is superb - engine braking on hills etc so maybe people need to speak from experience and not from gossip?

That isn't a serious and positive statement in their favour is it?

Cheers, I couldn't agree more.
