We live near chch and I want to buy a kayak that may be in (probably) the north Island,
Question> Can I board the cook strait ferry with a 3m kayak under my arm,
as I would leave my car i Picton.

What, and miss an excuse to practice your paddling?

A one minute check of the Interislander website says you can check in large sporting equipment like canoes for $15.

Did you not find that when you checked baggage section of the ferry websites?

The service you choose, (there are two) the other is generally better will tell you what you can do and that would be where to check rather than a forum where someone may come in and say this or that according to when they did this or that only to find this or that has changed from that to this. All the best.

It should be free, I'm mean, you paid for a boat to cross the Cook strait didn't you?
"Heres my ticket, here's my boat"

Nah, like said above, sporting goods, like surfboards & such.

Enjoy your canoodling.

There is a guy on the NZ Multisport/Triathlon Buy Sell and Exchange Facebook page called Paul Moreno. He travels regularly from Chch to Auckland and transports Kayaks for folk. Check him out.

You should be able to, I would have thought.

tygertung, Dec 23, 6:45pm
But it probably would be cheaper to have it shipped down than driving all the way to Picton, getting a ferry ticket, going across on the ferry, getting another ticket for the way back, and driving home again. Especially when you factor in meals (your time is free unless you are taking time off work).

thats a couple hundred $$$ in fuel alone, chch to picton and back ? there must be i would of thought a kayak for sale in CHCH around that size and cost !
