Looked at a 2019 2wd today for 20k only 12000km, quite a big Ute, didn’t get a chance for a test drive though. I know that these could be hard to get parts for a they are not a well known brand and they are no longer bringing them into the country. 20k buys for a (eg) ranger with close to 300000km on the clock. Hence why we have looked at this Ute. So hit me with your opinions of these Utes. I’ve not found many bad reviews.

A last gen attempt to get it right that failed due to bad build Quality and inferior design. Latest Chinese export offerings are heaps ahead already.

with 120.000 that be worth like 8 grand tops they where 20 k something new if i recall right and 2wd cheaper again. for a 2wd it be 5k max to pay . i looked at them years ago i could see rust inside rear axle and wellside on a brand new white one . The front guard plastic was held on with like 3 clips i was thinking id see them on the motorway when the wind blows them off. unfortunately never looked inside or under bonnet as i had seen more then enough and walk away.
I'd be happier with a 300k Ranger or Hilux. Or even a 200k Triton, BT-50, Colorado or D-Max.

With the popularity of double cabs I’d have thought you’d be hard pressed to find one with same miles from a dealer for less than 20.

For what reason are you looking at these incredibly poor value for money vehicles anyway? If you just need a family vehicle that is also capable of towing a 2 berth caravan there are far far better option available for your dollars.

Several. We will be upgrading our caravan at some stage to roughly 1500kg. Yes could still tow with other vehicles. 2nd reason we currently have a trailer which is handy, but takes up room on the section, so ideally need to go. A ute is useful for picking up that fridge or small load of wood. 3rd a diesel is better for towing. 4th being like everyone other Caravaner and have a Ute 😉

It's your money. Personally I think they're dreadful to live with on a day to day basis, you will discover several compromises very quickly. Given the terrible tray space you might find you wish you kept your trailer. Diesel isnt necessary for towing unless you are doing it several times a week, one is hardly compulsory for towing even a 1500kg van. Plenty of caravanners still use other vehicles that offer far greater comfort and practicality particularly in urban situations than what those do. Good luck.

2wd i believe the Toyota workmate is only about 30k brand new.
saw one the other day. looked new apart from the huge cloud of smoke coming out the back. i mean its a diesel but.

yeah ill never forget having to sandblast the tray of a brand new foton truck to remove the rust and repainting it.Also having a new foton ute coming in with the rear tailgate not painted the same color as the rest of the ute, apparently they forgot to paint it at the factory and it passed quality control somehow. hopefully quality has much improved!
With Garrett Motion (turbos) going for bankruptcy protection, parts of US automotive sector in state of flux.

We bought a double cab ute because we tow cars on a trailer quite a bit. I use it as my daily driver. We have a canopy on ours and it's really handy for the dogs, kids bikes, anything dirty or smelly I need to cart around. I find it really nice to drive, yes it's a bit bumpier than a car, but not that bad. Ours is an Isuzu dmax, 2013 2wd. It had about 136,000 kms on it when we bought it. We paid about 22k a year or so ago. It does cost a bit to run, but I worked it out compared to my old Camry and it's slightly cheaper to run and a lot more versatile. I wouldn't touch a foton ute. My hubby is a panel beater and thinks they are pieces of crap, after having to repair them.

At the mechanics a few months ago was a Chinese ute, in fairness I can't remember exactly what it was, but it needed brake pads, it was a two week wait to get them so they had to fit second hand ones to get the owner back on the road quickly.
