We had these in the 1970s and 80s already in Switzerland Zürich to name a place
And then China has the Maglev - a train that doesn’t actually touch the rails.

They pinched the tech from the Japanese, apparently. Even the Chinese can't get it to run at a profit though.

I just had to laugh when they started talking about the train, and how it's running on 'virtual rails'. Dude, it's a bus. It's running on a road!

Something I wondered about for the Airport light rail link was a bus /train that would use the current railway lines from central /west auckland to Onehunga /Manukau then literally drive onto the road to head into the airport. Basicly using what we've got

A hundred million bucks a year resurfaces a lot of road.

More on the bus/train here.
One most amusing detail is its name, the "ART" Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit. rapid mind you. A blistering 43mph and a staggering range of 15 miles.
Journalism has really gone down the tubes over the last decade. "Our curiosity peeked" (meaning piqued).
