There have been couple of items recently on TVNZ news about how WOF inspectors are being rushed off their feet trying to catch up with inspections following the extension of warrants over the covid lockdowns. My partner took her car into the Saturn Place (Auckland North Shore) VTNZ today, thinking there would be a queue. Nobody there - none, nada, zilch. She asked the reception lady if they had been busy. No. Maybe later in October we might be, she said. What else is fake news on TVNZ? Most of it, I would suggest.

nahh mate it isn't fake news. They just under estimate the Herd stupidity factor. What I mean is that it will START to get busy as the end of the "grace" period comes to an end. Those will be the "responsible' people. The rest of the herd will go onto Social media after the grace period has ended bleating about how SUDDENLY their car needs hundreds spent on it. And/or what utter a##### the cops are because just one day outside the grace period suddenly their car got green stickered for bald tyres, dodgy lights etc. Then there will be the inevitable excuse. "Ohh the line was miles long and I couldn't wait" -Having had a ticket for not WOF. Its all pretty predictable

So - ONE anecdotal incident of a VTNZ not being busy and suddenly the entire news article is fake?
Does the reception lady at that VTNZ speak for all their locations does she?

Car sailed through but I note they now give a warning on tyres at 3mm. That's about a 12 month warning with the limited mileage that she does.

Wanganui one completely empty when I drove past last week. Been doing all my vehicles and hardly any queues when done in the last 6 weeks, Wanganui and Levin.

Actually from what I've seen/been told His observation is about bang on right.

And yet - the head of VTNZ is saying otherwise. I'm gonna believe him over a receptionist at one of their locations. Silly old me.

Item I saw was about the fact that the extension will end soon and that that is likely to cause queues because people will likely wait until the last minute. It didn't say there were queues now. In fact, it was saying "get your WOF now instead of waiting for the queues". Which is what the people with half a brain will have done anyway.

I got the Blade a WOF on Monday morning at the local independent testing station. I was the only person there. However my usual mechanic was booked solid with WOFs all week.

We have been informed by MTA there are 500,000 cars that will need wof's due in October.

Hmm --one person is a salesman desperately trying to keep his brand alive. The other two are people who have made personal observations. Argueably four or more if you concider theres the observation by the OP, the staff member they spoke to . my personal observation at several testing stations and the comments by the staff there.

And 100,000 will actually bother to get a WOF.

You’ve observed human nature very well!

Our family have taken 3 cars through WOF's at VTNZ branches - west auck and north shore - in last 2 months. Not busy at all, even one on a Saturday morning when there are usually queues. Why wait till the October deadline? Seems unnecessary.

no long queues at our local vtnz since they stopped taking cash

In fairness social distancing rules make them seem busy. But customer numbers are down

when i last went with a women to get a recheck at vtnz and that was before the zombi virus. They had a sign out whom said it takes 45 minutes wait per wof . there was a car and a trailer in front after 1h the women left i said we are almost there now lol. while we waited i calculated 8h a day thats 9 wofs they can do because they do it right. You dont need much of a brain to figure out what f. kd up morons they have got to be . 5 staff and 9 cars a day.

Back to the original title. The problem with fake news is it has always existed . In the olden days in year 1800+ a ship took 3 month from europe to deliver any news some of it would have been fake news also. its like weeds one weed wont make it far. But now that we have instant comunication round the globe this 1 weed spreads like wildfire. Thats what has changed. And if you only have weeds you wont see your garden thats the real problem. i clearly remember as a kid cars who fly in magazins and that it will come next few years that was fake news in one magazin that a few hundred people maybe a few tousend did read . And people did not think of it as fake news it was just normal and one did know it was most probably bs. But today when you only have b.s its impossible to see the 1 carrot amoung the weed , is the true story difficult to find what is not fake news now .

Hardly a source of honest info given that MTA represents the garages and not the vehicle owners.
