And sounds like the engine number has been ground off and redone. Why would you do that? Nothing computes.US import.

Number please. Got me interested but there is 388 listing up there. I guess ya talking a modern one, its just that i was reading the story on how the British won the Daytona 500 in [think it was "66] on a highly modified 500 twin. Same motor as my 500 Metisse but seriously modded. Quite a story & very very lucky to win. It certainly looks like a 350. And the front end doesn't seem to match the bike. It also looks like a chimp put those numbers on the cases. Still could be a nice bike if you don't mind the price, can register it and it rides like you want it to

MAybe lovable old mongrel with triumph heart would best describe it.

It's not a Daytona, lots of different parts there. I'd say it's about a '69, maybe a Ceriani front end. 21 cases mean it's a 350, but you can put 500 parts into 350 cases. I did, as I modified my left hand case to late model breather, and didn't want to butcher my T100C cases. You have a Metisse yz490 ? I had a 500 MkIII Metisse back in the '70's, road legal. well maybe. Lots of fun on a gravel road, and off road 3rd gear full lock slides forever.

Why would you alter the engine number?

You have a Metisse yz490 ? I had a 500 MkIII Metisse back in the '70's, road legal. Na, i bought a new one in "67 for motocross--scrambles as it was. Came with a factory rebuilt single carb 5TA or T100 specs i guess. Can still smell the fibreglass lol. Came minus rear wheel & fork yokes [tripples nowdays] so made some bsa b33 yokes work with mods to the top yoke where forks fit in for the ceriani's & used a bsa rear wheel. That motor took 'so much' punishment. Right side crank bush had horse & cart clearance after a year or so but never worried it. Had to space up the gearbox late in the piece as dogs were getting a bit rounded due to clutchless gearchanging on full song. Miss those days damn it lol. Found a youtube vid of think its ricky roper in the uk on one. Same sound exactly--still gives me goose bumps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTaopTd7vJ4

My guess is that the person selling it hasn't got a clue what it is OR is being deliberately obtuse to sound like they haven't a clue. The case stamping could be dodgy.

50 years is a long time for a Triumph not to have dodgy numbers.
