The last few days visiting Waikato Hospital, I have noticed most people are now reversing into their parking spaces. The bonus is, it is much quicker and easier to get square on.

msigg, May 17, 5:01pm
Well in the old days you just turn your head and shoulders and get in straight. Now we have lost our flexibility.

You managed to get a park before the whole place is full.

sandypheet, May 17, 6:09pm
Its a mission in that building.

laurelanne, May 17, 6:47pm
It's a mission alright. I keep meeting all these cars coming down thinking there must be a vacant spot soon.

amasser, May 17, 8:59pm
Nobody told you that there wasn't?

Even seen "drivers" of Nissan Micras struggle in there.

bill-robinson, May 17, 10:32pm
i wonder how people reversed cars before cameras

tygertung, May 17, 10:40pm
I guess the same way as now because most cars don't have them.

laurelanne, May 17, 10:46pm
My point bill. Before cameras most people drove in, generally on a bit of an angle and off to one side. Cameras are now giving people the confidence to back in and they are discovering the advantage of having the steering axle behind them.

By engaging reverse

bill-robinson, May 17, 10:53pm
not according to post #9

bumfacingdown, May 17, 11:04pm
How so, no mention of not doing that

bill-robinson, May 17, 11:55pm
or doing that.

bumfacingdown, May 18, 11:50am
How would you suggest people reversed if not by selecting reverse gear, interested to hear how they did it back in the day before reversing cameras, bill

bill-robinson, May 18, 5:27pm
you could get out and push your car, but it would be hard to hold a camera and take photos at the same time. there is no requirement for a motor vehicle to have reverse gear, go check it out.

martin11, May 18, 5:58pm
Try doing a Licence test without a reverse gear . Fail .

bill-robinson, May 18, 6:21pm
go check the law why do you need a license to reverse a car? you only need a license to drive on the road.

laurelanne, May 18, 6:30pm
Shite bill. You are being a cantankerous old sod today. It's only eight thirty.

lythande1, May 18, 6:46pm
And this is about cameras? I reverse into the garage every time I come back home, down the drive and in. No camera, just the old fashioned way.

tygertung, May 18, 7:52pm
I would say only a very small proportion of the vehicles in NZ have reversing cameras.

3tomany, May 18, 7:54pm
If the space is a a tight one i back in, as just like parallel parking it is easier to back into a tight space.

bill-robinson, May 18, 8:27pm
me as well, 120 metre drive way is no problem. you just need to understand what mirrors are for, not makeup. or checking to see if you shaved today.

bumfacingdown, May 18, 8:57pm
Riiigghhht, although I may suggest it would be you who did that, most other people would just engage reverse gear.
ps To get a license their is indeed a reversing task to be completed

bill-robinson, May 18, 9:11pm
i know there is a reversing part to a driving test. and as usual the law is an ass. if there is no requirement for a reverse gear. you could just drive on and find a parking spot that you can drive into. no need for sillyness then.

thepiercedkiwi, May 18, 9:33pm
In Aus most people reverse into parks over there.
