WOF time frames following lockdown grace period

If your WOF expired during lockdown, and you then got it late September (ie had no WOF for a few mths when the temporary extension applied), should the WOF received in Sept 2020 last 12mths from Sept, or 12 mths from the date it would've expired? I know rego's go back to the expiry date, but all official documentation I can find online says WOF's run from the date of testing, if they have expired. I can't see anything saying it's different following lockdown. Will lead to a bottle neck every October though. Anyone got a link to the official word? Have just got a reminder from the garage, and have realised it's not all that long since that car got a WOF.

wof last 12 month for cars 2000 onwards and 6 month for 99 and older. from date it passes the test. nothing will change this. the grace period has ended at the specic date it was basically a free pass to drive without wof till then

Wof is from the date of inspection either 12 months or if pre 2000 6 months

If it passed in Sept 2020 it will expire in Sept 2021. The previous expiry date means nothing unless of course it passes 14 days before the expiry date and therefore has the unexpired portion added to the new expiry date. That obviously doesnt apply in this case.

Rego rolls on unless you put it on hold.WOF expires 1 year or 6 months from time of inspection .

Maybe the garage has 2 dates in the system for your car.

The 6 monthly WOF thing is a massive pain in the arse. Surely there must be such a dwindling number of pre 2000 cars now in regular use that they can bring all cars to a yearly WOF. Most pre 2000 cars still going now will be classic or secondary cars that don't do a lot of mileage. Having a fleet of classics at the moment sucks as I seem to have a car needing a new WOF every few weeks.

There are still heaps of old dungas down here.

It wouldn't make sense to have the wof from the last date of expiry, as if had expired over a year ago, the new wof would still be expired again. You'd have to do two wofs at the same time. Would be a good wee money spinner for the garage.

Did many people really wait untill October and drive around with an expired WOF for months? There was really no reason why not to update the WOF in any level but level four.

they didn’t have to so they didn’t do it

I didn't get a wof on one of my cars, was good not having to get a wof. I only do a couple thousand kms a year max.
