I see a trend in government fleet

purchases. Audi get crown limos, Skoda have the police fleet, and lots of VW vans in government fleets as well. Looks like VAG are kicking some goals.

Would it be better to only purchase one model car and use it for everything. Bulk Lancer wagons or similar. Would be better for parts and tooling commonality.

3tomany, Nov 26, 12:20pm
Even if that was a good idea, do they even make lancer any more?

Wonder who gets the Veyron!

poppy62, Nov 26, 1:01pm
Keeping with the VAG group trend. This will probably be James Shaw's wheels:

Not sure, but the CE Lancer GLXi wagon was very popular as a fleet car as they were very reliable, powerful (with a 4G93 16 valve engine) and good value for money at about $19k.

They had a long production run from about 1993-2003. We've got two at our household, but only use one. I am going to fix one up a bit so it is really nice and sell the other.

Is there a newer equivalent that the government could use perhaps?

That's an awful bike, for someone who doesn't know anything about bikes.

poppy62, Nov 26, 1:38pm
They're too small.

tygertung, Nov 26, 1:54pm
Rubbish, they are plenty big enough. Anyway you can't get them anymore so no point arguing about the size.

What a shame. There were some good Lancer models out there.

You can still get a Toyota Corolla wagon though

tygertung, Nov 27, 7:08am
The issue with those Corollas is that the boot space doesn't look very big.

The government agencies will be bored o death driving those and miss all the action. + they will need two of them to carry all the gear.

Toyota were government fleet of choice before now apart from police but i think the problem is Toyota are a decade behind in engine emissions, so can compete on price but when emissions and safety are added to the criteria, the euros rise to the top.
