Language barrier or fishing trip?

kazbanz, May 13, 11:38pm
With the changes in the TM enquiry system I've been getting a lot more of the "Will you take? XXXX for your car"
With such a huge increase in the use of that specific language Im not sure if theres been a shift in language and that's an actual offer or if its a fishing trip.
What do you make of it.

"What is your bottom dollar" was a frequent question when I sold a car recently.
They ceased when I replied "asking & selling price are identical"

Maybe there is some app or other that is providing suggested text. Like when you reply to a txt message or in gmail it gives you various options for quick reply.

Same rules as always, something is either a reasonable offer or its not regardless of how its presented.

kazbanz, May 14, 1:53am
but IS it an actual offer? The way its phrased suggests they are fishing

kazbanz, May 14, 1:55am
I agree--there is an auto populate that says -im interested in XXXX listing number 123465 -but from there you type your question

If you suspect its fishing just dismiss them! You of all people are the man with the gut instinct.

Like the stupid facebook marketplace "Is this still available?", I just ignore the automated responses

Blimmin annoying.
It is usually followed by “what’s your lowest price?”.
When you confirm it is still available and the price has not changed you never hear from them again thankfully.
It is very common for the enquiree to have a name such as Ramesh or Deepak or the like.
Just sayin.

They are fishing, if you say yes, they come take a look and offer even lower again because they already know you will accept xxxx$.
In my opinion, any genuine offer will come with a full name and contact details while also asking questions about the vehicle.

It's very much like real estate agents saying they have cash buyers for your house and the notification is put in your letter box addressed to the householder and the letter is started Dear Householder. I bet if an agent had a cash buyer for your house they would be around in person to discuss.

My thinking is different. I have been known to sell a car to someone who has made an offer lower than someone else because they seemed nice and easy to deal with, and there have bee rare occasions when I have refused to sell a person a car even at full price because I believed they would be very difficult to deal with.

Your choice as to what you accept and who you accept it from at the end of the day. I was talking in.pure monetary terms.

As rude and impersonal that is its not really that wise. I would have lost several sales if I had followed that advice, taking that attitude doesnt really get you anywhere.

100% agree with you there.
