Hey guys currently doing a head replacement on my 1kz and been thinking about doing egr delete is there any pros and cons to doing this on a 1kz at all iv done it to my pajero and my bighorn in the past with good results but seems to be a 50/50 debate wether its worth it on the 1kz any help would be great thanks

the catch with the 1kz is it has an intake butterfly controlled by the throttle cable. this reduces air flow which is replaced by egr. when you block the egr you end up with reduced air flow and lower effective compression. there is the small intake butterfly (which is the egr butterfly) which needs to be disabled while keeping the engine shutoff function still working.

So is it worth doing or just keep it going the way it is to save Hassel?

not to sure, i don't normally deal with that engine. if you can work out how to disable the egr butterfly set up then i would block the egr off. you need to do both.
unless the engine is rebuilt, its a 25 year old engine with a ton of blowby which pours in a lot of egr anyway.

biggest problem will be to know what to do to keep engine from thinking its not working. On vw you edit the map with winols via obd2 since 1996 instructions have been on internet for that 20 years before the knotheads in california came up with emission cheating scandal. What the problem is if the EGR is on the mass airflow changes and if the ecu looks for this change then you are having to edit the map= I dont know anyone who could do this . if its not looking for this change you just block the port like you do on non electronic diesel.

i would look on 4wd forums for anyone having hacked it. You also need to borrow my time machine to go back in time to do this legally as the law prevents you from temparing with emissions somwhere 2008 as my passat is built just before this non temper law came to be.

intrade, shut ya trap. no MAF sensor on them, there is no egr valve feedback switch/sensor etc. the ecu does not know if its on or off. the ecu in them are pretty dumb compared to today.
those engines are sucking so much egr via the breather that they probably run excessive egr and cause more pollution than the egr system fixes. the law is a bit of an arse when dealing with vehicles of that age.
