I-load/I-max EGR blank off?

muzz67, Jul 13, 3:34am
Yes, correct,, looks like a sod of a thing to get out.
The dealership has ordered the updated pipe.
Thanks for replies,, confirmed the obvious choice !

Van has begun making a wheezing noise shortly after start-up,, Dealer has identified a split EGR pipe, and has quoted around $500 to fix which seems a lot. (Van does not have DPF)
What are the pro's and con's of simply blanking it off?

Or
Why has he NOT fixed it already?

muzz67, Jul 11, 7:08am
Because they will have to order the pipe, it a tiny leak that is not loosing boost, in their opinion another week wont cause any problem.

why not pull it out and weld it up?
not uncommon for some to split whey they join the end fitting. no problem welding it back on.

Pro: Might be cheaper than fixing the issue.

Con: Appears to be considered Illegal tampering of emissions control equipment (Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Exhaust Emissions 2007

Frankly $500 is small as vehicle repairs go.

a lot lol you have got no idea of cost if you ask me . you also have to clean the intake and use the 300$ flashlight to see what else is broken or needs maintaining. i seriously doubt 500$ will fix your problems that only just started. it will be one nightmare after another if you dont fix it right and spend the 2500$ that it really cost to do it right before the engine is fully nuked .

if you delete a egr you will have 100% a permanent check engine light potentially limp mode of limited rpm. unless you command edit the fuel-map to always comand the valve closed that is the parameters you paste on the whole command on the vw who are known to have the information on how to delete stuff online almost since the beginning of the internet.
As someone pointed out its illegal but its not 2007 as my passat is 07 and the law came in later i am 100% sure as i am working out how to build a time machine to go back and delete legally my dpf before the law came to be of illegal emission tempering.
Now to what people who smoke weed and other general people who dont know how to use there brain cells Think.
They think i go delete there stuff because no one ever finds out because thy dont think for 5 cent .
The law exists that dont makes it legal if i do it. What it makes it is makes me liable for there cheap fix if the law ever comes down with a hammer and i would be bankrupted with fines like diesel brothers in usa.
But they never find out?
if you think for 5 cent if a car is build date after the law then you cant say it came like this. There is a thing called the vin number who stipulates exactly what emission the vehicle was built to= best case scenario you can proof that it was not you who might have tempered with it. And we all know if they hand you a 70k fine you would say i did it for 50 cent and i pay the 70k and have to pay lawyers and all for another 150k just because the cheapskates dont want to fix the cars.
So Nop it aint gona happen
i have the 3 B rule. ="1I did not build it "2 i did not buy it" 3 i did not brake it. pay up.

The pipe is across the back of the head above the gearbox bell housing so access isn't easy. Make sure when you get it replaced that they use the updated part so it doesn't happen again
