Collection of noises on cold start

Is that a bit similar to Moreys Oil Conditioner - If i recall correctly a very good engineer told Hubby once that stuff turns the oil into a polymer chain which makes it sit on the internal surfaces and not run off so easily as untreated oil. Thus on startup the engine already has oil 'to go' so to speak and theres less noise and wear and tear ?

Have someone else start the car & take a video on your phone of the engine bay when it's first started. Gives the mechanic an idea of what they're listening for

Moreys /lucas(conditioner come stabilizer) is a bit different from mbl8 and just as good but on a different platform. for basic product info https://www.proma.global/ProductMoreInfo.aspx?PID=50083&MenuID=6610 MB= metal based lubricant where as moreys more of an an oil stablizer for mineral and synthetic oils which extends oil change periods .wynns was popular but it is alcohol based ,we know alcohol evaporates , has a very short shelf life as well not so good! Really you need to find the product tech info on certain products and it is hard to find !there is all sorts out there ,chemical based using ceramics, graphites , Molybdenum disulfides EP types ,they are only additives proma is the only and first one to claim theirs as a treatment .Composition> C&P
Micro-metallic particles
An Anti Friction ingredient
A Particle Suspension agent
An Anti-Corrosion agent
An Anti-Foam agent
An Anti-Oxidant
A Dispersant
Action and Benefits

There are three basic mechanisms of action.

1. Lubricating Action - The product contains micrometallic particles, spherical in shape and acting as super lubricating agents.
2. Filling Action - MBL8 fills in minor grooves, scratches and pits in the component material being treated, making a smooth surface which cuts down on friction and continues to reduce wear.
3. Plating Action - MBL8 plates into the surface, repairing the scarred or worn area. This process will vary depending on component application.

Regular use of MBL8 Concentrated Oil Additive can:

Decrease fuel consumption.
Decrease oil consumption.
Decrease smoking.
Restore compression.
Increase horsepower.
Reduce emissions.
Repair by plating into minor scratches and surface imperfections.
Extend component life.
Reduce Friction.
The detergents in MBL8 help clean the internal working parts and hence, present a clean surface for lubrication. The metal particles can then do their part to reduce friction and increase operating efficiency within the unit. The micro-metallic particles perform two major functions. First, they conform to the irregularities on the surface of the moving parts resulting in a repaired and therefore, more easily lubricated surface. This same action is responsible for improving compression and horsepower in the internal combustion engine. The ‘improved’ wearing surface is then more effectively lubricated, even by the existing oil.

I am warned that if my XJ8 makes a rattling noise when cold, that the timing chain tensioners are about to give up and they better be changed immediately.
After 175,000 km they are still quiet.

proma mbl8 used to be exclusive to proma only ,then selling it only through their agents ,earlier on in the 90's I was an agent in Timaru. Proma worked too much like an Amway pyramid selling scheme . I pulled out early ,but sold all I had in no time ,the 5litre packs sold in no time! now the product is really out there. But the stuff works as they claim. it's no snake oil I can tell you that. extends engine life even repairs! and saves doing premature rebuilds etc it gives more time to consider what to do with it at end of life when the wheels no longer turn.

Okilie Dokies let us run this thread thru.

The old BABELFISH Translater. (As Ya Just Do)

Tappet noise=half engine speed.
MBL8=Moly Slip (MolybdenumDisulphide)
Absoulutely brilliant where engine manufacturers specify longer oil change intervals and use hydrualic lifters in overhead cam situations requiring very small lifters in the top end that gum up their valve plates.
So MBL8 (molyslip) removing varnish. gum. deposits
Allowing lifter valves to SEAL.

As to

! Collection of engine noises!

Well it sure as eggs AINT an oxy sensor probleemo

mbl8 is a (metal based lubricant} on a different platform! not a sole moly slip! Moly slip such as moreys is this Molyslip E , apart from colour, makes no significant alteration to the characteristics of the oil to which it is added. The MoS2 film formed cannot drain off bearing surfaces and is unaffected by extremes of temperature. Molyslip E blends well with all types of oils, including mineral, synthetic, semi-synthetic, and hydraulic oils. With a small particle size of 0.5 microns, (about the size of a cold germ), Molyslip E will pass through oil filters without risk of clogging.
The task of lubricating oil is to reduce friction between bearing metal surfaces, and to dissipate the heat generated by friction. Modern lubricating oils perform their tasks efficiently, but it is impossible for the lubricating oil film to be present at all times. Under conditions of extreme heat and pressure, the film can break down, and on engine start up there is inevitably a delay before oil (including synthetic lubricants) is circulated to all components.Molyslip E is a colloidal suspension of molybdenum disulfide, with complimentary additives, in a high-quality refined mineral lubricating oil.The structure of a molecule of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) can be compared to a sandwich— sulphur for the covering and molybdenum for the filling. Sulphur atoms have a strong affinity for metal, and the molecules of MoS2become bonded onto the working metal surfaces. Because the sulphur to sulphur bond is weak, the minute particles of MoS2 glide over each other freely, giving an extremely low coefficient of friction.Moreys chemical based and proma are 2 different products.

#32 and its also not going to do jac. $t when the valves are shimmed with adjustable change shims.

strobo, Nov 7, 7:43pm
Are you stupid or something? I suggested service first and have always have maintained that in all my posts . as you would do ;-) A Full service not just a blardy oil/filters change!

intrade, Nov 7, 7:50pm
strobo i added to your comment so i dont have to write 2 pages of what was already said. proma ml8 i have it on the shelf never used . it works on unsticking gummed up hydro lifters as per other poster . But it sure as hell is not going to grow or shrink a fixed round disk with a specific thickness.
Thats what that post said and now i still have to write a whole page again.

I still think you all might be overthinking things. Old /hard accessory belt on worn pulleys might be all that's wrong. I'm NOT saying I'm right just that given the simptoms I'd at least check it out.

franc123, Nov 7, 9:40pm
I would only ever use Proma MBL8 in an engine that's got a persistent problem with sticking/noisy hydraulic lifters. which isnt the case with this particular car. I've never been a fan of using oil additives otherwise, manufacturers dont recommend them as using the specified oil (which already has the required additives) and filters and changing them at appropriate intervals is all it should ever need. MBL8 is a condensed way of saying Maybe Later I'll fix it properly!

gazzat22, Nov 7, 11:01pm
Kaz you,ve got a point.A long time ago my car was making a noise that sounded like dieing water pump or worse .Took it to my mechanic he sprayed CRC/WD40 on the alternator/fan belt the noise stopped!

strobo, Nov 8, 8:29pm
Checking and adjusting valve clearances ,checking and adjusting belt tensions, checking pulley bearings, spark plugs ,throttle body clean, fuel pump and so on.is all part of a full service capeesh! Most of the problems with posters vehicles come up on the MIL ,they have done a lube service but not a full service and probably haven't done so in many years. They think a basic service covers it all.the vehicle gets up to 150,000 k and the mechanocals are not so as even much looked at.,noises appear and lights throw up .as i said before .full service first before you plug in ya wonder tool. That is my modus operandi ,it works all the time ,everytime and always on time ,ie no extended hours on a job guessing.Do the correct service first.start there first unless you can go straight to the faulty part first up if it is that plain obvious.then monitor further with the diagnostic tool after a reset.Fitting oil treatments is a personal choice!

tegretol, Nov 9, 10:34am
Yeah my Mulsanne is exactly the same.

mrfxit, Nov 10, 10:47pm
Ouch, thats going to hurt the pocket, never mind finding someone that can do it.

Years ago I met a retired English professional oils expert, he had worked in laboratories testing lubricants of all sorts. He said you don't need additives, the oil manufacturers' products have everything that is needed for their particular task. He mentioned he would be sitting in his pub with his pint of nice warm ale, listening to the Hooray Henrys going on about how much better their MGBs go with so-and-so's (expensive) additive. He would just smile and shake his head. (But I guess, with oils as with anything else, you get what you pay for. Cheapo brands might not be up to the standards of the high quality products, so read the fine print.)
