This is off topic sorry guys, the music board is gone, but tell me what you think of the Lamborghini Huracan while you’re here.

Hi Ray, I’m almost certain that clarinet is a B Flat. Serial number is from 1947 and B&H production of C clarinets after WWII appears from some quick research to be zero. At 670mm it is identical in length to a standard B flat.

I didn’t want to risk derailing your auction so I thought I would post here. Cheers mate.

Thanks for that. Both bidders dropped out so I have whacked up the reserve, changed the title to put anyone off!. A previous bidders passed on that info too, so I'll take it around the corner to Parity Place and get a confirmation then relist with confidence.

Sheesh, if I'd known it was a Bb, I might have been tempted to learn to play it!

Cool no worries. I actually quite like those old wooden B&H instruments, with a little TLC it should play and sound very nicely.

Yup, you and the other experts were correct. Assessed by ABI - where one of the directors used to race a Porsche in our race series, so a legitimate motoring post!

Motoring and music have often gone hand in hand. Nick Mason's car collection is legendary and Mark Knopfler raced a Maserati sports a few years ago.

A V8 screaming out is music to my ears.

Is it still music to ya ears when it goes *BANG*? Just askin.

I guess superstar musos can afford nice cars! Knopfler is my all-time favourite musician.

Interesting saxman. He did a radio set with the Chris Barber band about 2000 and I asked John Crocker (reeds), who I'd arranged to meet at Goodwood, what he thought of the session. He didn't rubbish Knopfler in any way, but reckoned that Paul Sealey (banjo & guitar) and John Saughter (blues guitar) gave him a run for his money.

As you know, I'm a huge Chris Barber fan (he retired last year aged 89) and he managed a couple of speeding tickets the year before, on consecutive days - I think it was 96mph and 94mph!

He raced an early Lotus Elite (surprisingly well) and then owned one of the Lotus 47 racers, that he entered for other drivers such as Sir John Whitmore and John Hine.

I should imagine there’s great stories like that throughout his life, what an amazing career he must have had.

I did some work for a guy in New Plymouth a few decades back that claimed he had been Nick Mason's accountant, and he had a monogrammed pullover to back his claim. Apparently part of his duties was to take cars from Nick's collection 'for a run' from time to time. Tough gig.

Nick Mason obviously had some very good financial advice! Tough gig alright. His book 'Into the Red' (?) with Mark Hales has to be a collectors item, as it had a CD with it, with some great sounding cars.
