DPFs have been a problem on diesel engines for well over 10 years

ANY modern diesel is designed to run on zero sulphur diesel.-go figure Our diesel is "low" sulphur They are also running far tighter tolerances than your generation of Toyota Diesels and have to meet a LOT tougher emission laws. Net result -they need to run hot/long on a regular basis to clear the system out.

If the below is is accurate, I am surprised that there wasn't deemed to be a breach of the fair trading act.
"Ms Muollo says that she had not previously owned a diesel vehicle, so she asked Mr Bhatia about the differences between a diesel and petrol vehicle. She says that Mr Bhatia advised her that there were no differences, other than the need to pay road user charges for a diesel vehicle"
Clearly it is false that there are "no differences, other than the need to pay road user charges for a diesel vehicle". For starters the fuel is different, and all of the following are different: Performance properties, acoustic profile, maintenance requirements, exhaust emissions profile etc.
I looked up 2014 demio one here, and sure enough there are 6 diesels listed. Must be fairly hard for salespeople to move these. Thanks to NZ's RUC / petrol tax setup diesel cars cost more fuel / pay road tax for than their petrol equivalent, are noisier, and have higher maintenance costs to boot.

http://www.nzlii.org/cgi-bin/sinodisp/nz/cases/NZMVDT/2021/48.html?query=2021 Isn't it a small SMALL world. I can say with a LOT of confidence that the lady concerned was very well aware of the difference between Petrol and diesel. The driving force in her purchasing decision was the price and milage. She was comparing the car she bought with at least one other 2015 Demio which was petrol with 90km. -and $1000 more It was clearly explained the difference between petrol and Diesel.

Been pretty common knowledge since DPF were fitted.

Actually I am mistaken. I had one with a 2C. It was incredibly slow. But this particulate filter business is news to me.

The lack of training of new vehicle dealership sales staff on the basic technicalities that NEED to be conveyed to customers re the correct operation of DPF equipped diesels during the sales process was always going to be magnified once they started showing up on the forecourts of 'other' dealers.
