Just the standard cruise control, not the active one where is adjusts to the veh. speed in front.

My 200kw petrol is 2 litres/100 thirstier on an open road trip using cruise control. When using "Resume" it will use about half throtle and kick-down if it considers necessary (which is usually) and on uphills it wlll use throttle to maintain 110, instead of economically alowing speed to ease back to say 100.

Got a '98 primera 2 litre, nice car, but no cruise control. Are there any after-market cruise controls available, and what's involved in fitting one!

Forget it.
It will cost more than the car is worth.

ignore above comment

Google AP60 cruise control, Supersheep sell them I think, but they are $250+.

Why would you want to.!

I've spoken to two different people who say it's stopped the tickets they were getting due to inattention. Also people claim quite significant fuel savings.

maybe they should learn to drive.

LMFAO "due to inattention" & they think cruise control is good, probably a better idea if they hand in their licence & sell the car.
Then again . Ppl get run over "due to inattention" simply by walking across the road.

Agreed on the tickets point, but just answering m16d's question.
However considering the economy claims of some, might be worth looking into for somebody doing a lot of open road traveling.

Any fuel economy gains would be by elimination of the 'inattention' factor but only on level or downhill roads. Uphill you'll use more fuel as the throttle is opened wider to maintain speed when slowing would improve the fuel consumption. That doesn't make me turn off the cruise control though.

Seriously tho . If getting tickets & fuel economy "due to inattention" are that big an issue, them maybe they should rethink their transport options.
smac,
Sep 14, 7:28am
Yeah.'cause this country has the public transport infrastructure in place to make no car viable. ;)
The fuel saving isn't about inattention, it's about the fact the gizmo can more accurately apply 'just enough' throttle to maintain speed on rises, whereas a person will tend to apply more until speed starts to increase, then back off. Over time that adds up.
I don't have one to know for sure.but I'm curious. It will obviously depend a lot on the driver's style without cruise, and probably from vehicle to vehicle. Some will have a better system to others.

I've seen lots of aftermarket cruise control fittings in oz, be warned though some of them aren't very smooth
mrfxit,

Smac, my worry is more about public SAFETY due to their apparent inattention problems.

Cruise control is a great addition to any car, particularly with our ridiculous NZ speeding laws; it even works well fitted to manual (as long as you fit a disengage switch to the clutch as well as the brake!).The aftermarket kits I have seen work well but care is needed when fitting the servo to the accelerator linkage to ensure smooth operation. I??

Have a 2007 Holden Captiva with computer fuel economy readout. When using cruise control fuel consumption rises.

I use cruise all the time now after getting a ticket, really helps you stop creeping up over the limit, i find i miss it in our other car that doesnt have it
