Then in the questions you see someone ask " Keen on a swap for a." and they answer " Yea could be. blah blah" Geez vehicle sellers on here need to get their story straight

I wonder how many people actually move overseas upon selling their car!

aragorn2003, Sep 20, 6:39pm
ive noticed that afew times

franc123, Sep 20, 6:40pm
Yeah lol most of the time it's bull faeces.Regardless of whether its true or not its still the dumbest thing you can say when selling a car, or anything else for that matter, all it does is invite low offers at the last minute. It doesn't speed up the sale process it slows it down lol.

And the guy who was selling because his wench was havin a snot and he needed the money. but would swap for a dirt bike, Well duh!

pebbles61, Sep 20, 7:51pm
Agreed, seen that happen many a time lol. People wait to the last minute to sale their car/bike and then get peanuts for it. Granted sometimes people need them till the last second, but a bit of planning couls save you some dollars.

If you're really selling and heading overseas, $1 Reserve it

smoothgroove, Sep 20, 8:34pm
Yeah.
And how many $1 reserve auctions get pulled before the auction is due to close.
Can be annoying for genuinely interested parties.

The thing is, apparently the buyer caring why the seller is selling is a very kiwi thing. I saw a thread on a UK forum a while ago - guy said he'd been to NZ and was asking why all our car adds stating a reason for selling. All the comments were in line with that, they all thought it odd.

Asking why somebody is selling is just an underhand way of asking what's wrong with the car. If the buyer wants to know what's wrong with it, they should come out and ask. If they ask something that's none of their business really, they shouldn't be surprised they get a crap answer.

a.woodrow, Sep 21, 6:44am
Buyer: Hi, I'm interested in you're car. why are you selling!

Seller (in head): Well, I can hear a quiet clatter that could be the big ends going, I've put an additive in to quieten it down, I've noticed it uses 3L of oil between changes, the electric power steering plays up on cold mornings, the transmission leaks and for some reason its guzzling the gas. When I put the foot down the check light comes on and it sometimes stalls. I have to take it to the dealer to reset the computer.

Seller (out Loud): Selling cos I'm leaving the country, its great car nothing wrong with it, sad to see it go. No test pilots, but you can come and hear it running :)

Seller (in head):Heh heh Sucker!

Are we jazz fishing today!

trogedon, Sep 21, 7:13am
I think sometimes people ask because they want to know if you??

thejazzpianoma, Sep 21, 10:21am
Are we ever not!
Anyhow, this fish always enjoys the game.

nickybean, Sep 21, 12:09pm
How naive am I to think that people use it as a genuine reason considering me and my partner are actually moving overseas.Only reason it's not going on a $1 reserve as the car was a project car so it's not worth the low selling price.

elect70, Sep 21, 12:16pm

trogedon, Sep 21, 5:18pm

sharchew, Sep 23, 9:04am
Is justway of saying you may get a good deal but turns out to be a rubbish deal

morrisjvan, Sep 23, 9:11am
I love ''reason for selling -because we've brought a new car'' means no-one would trade this p.o.s !

rob_man, Sep 23, 11:31am
You assume everyone buys from a dealer! I hardly ever do apart from the odd cheapie trade-in they want to get rid of.

rob_man, Sep 23, 11:33am
If anybody was to ask my reason for selling I would state that I have a car I don't want any more and I would like to exchange it for money. Money which can in turn be exchanged for goods or services.

lookoutas, Sep 25, 8:36am
What it really means is: "if you buy it, don't bother looking for me when something goes wrong."

richardmayes, Sep 25, 8:42am
It might be a way of discouraging the kind of buyers who expect to claim on that unwritten, unspoken, 100% money back guarantee that all privately sold cheap used cars come with.
