can't comment on the reliability but that model is certainly a comfortable and well spec'd piece of kit, despite the pretty basic suspension and so on they are a nice vehicle to travel in, the couple of examples I've driven have been very pleasant. If wanting that sort of thing I would buy one, from what I hear the V8's are comparable in fuel economy to the sixes.

richard198, Oct 1, 7:48am
It's a Chrysler!
Bad build quality. Unreliable. Unsafe. Thirsty.Terrible handling. etc. etc.
And you want another one!

franc123, Oct 1, 8:01am
Reread the last sentence of the first post. Not everybodys experience has been like that.

chris_051, Oct 1, 8:30am
My money is your experience on them = sweet farrk all.
Make sure the heater works as the blend door motor inside the dash can stick, the diffs don't make any noise and they have the correct fully synthetic oil, and the transfer case doesn;t bind up on hard lock.
Family friend towed their tandem horse float with an early 4.0 Cherokee, upgraded to one of these V8s and it is cheaper on gas. You will find for what they are they are very good on gas, just compare it to a Range Rover 4.6 or Petrol Patrol or Land Cruiser to see what I mean.

jeeps are cool, dad used to have a 350 and 3 spd man mahindra(cj4 copy),was an awesome wagon.gotta say its the V8 that ices them so to speak

thejazzpianoma, Oct 1, 10:48am
The new Jeep Phoenix is more economical than a Hybrid and its exceptionally reliable.

You could actually buy one for just a couple of thousand more than the one in the link. depends how much space you need though as they are only little.

richard198, Oct 1, 10:51am
I've worked on quite a few Chrysler Jeeps.
Badly made heaps. The only thing they do reasonably well is offroad but there are other vehicles that do that better.
I guess you lost that bet!

offrd1, Oct 1, 12:30pm
I have owned a lot of 4x4s including 80 series Cruiser.People tried to talk me out of the Jeeps and like a idiot i listened to them for many years, then i thought stuff it i'll give them a try and bought a 2002 Wrangler, the only regret i have is i didn't buy a Jeep years ago and listen to idiots that are full of it .this is the best 4x4 i have ever owned and NO there is very few4wds that would touch them off road ,no reliability problems so far [ touch wood .lol.] this little Wrangler gets thrashed.Have done a few mod's to it but not many.SO SORRY I THINK YOU ARE FULL OF IT

richard198, Oct 1, 1:28pm
We're talking about the Cherokee here not the Wrangler.
The Wrangler is very good off road.
No need to apologise either!

bellky, Oct 1, 1:32pm
fool

richard198, Oct 1, 1:36pm
Yes it is! Didn't you realise!
The Cherokee doesn't handle on the road; is fairly good off road.
The Wrangler is better than the Cherokee off road.
Clear now!

bellky, Oct 1, 1:39pm
i'm clear - not sure about thee.

haventrader, Oct 1, 2:27pm
Richard, I don't think anyone will buy a 4x4 to compare how it will handle on road. Not even a Range Rover or Surf, or Merc ML etc will handle like a 3 series Beemer or other well-built car- how can it! Simple science. But then I would not expect the Beemer to handle off-road either!

So far I only hear good things from people that own Jeeps. As I said in my post, I have a Cherokee and I have not had a day's problem with it at all. Its done well over 200k and still starts first pop with no smoke, and pulls like a train. Glad to hear though that the V8 is better on fuel than the 6! This is getting better all the time. Cheers

richard198, Oct 1, 2:34pm
Fair enough. The off road thing was a bit off topic. As for reliabilty and quality; from the boss of Chrysler himself:-
"Out of 100 vehicles, we're apt to build 10 that are as good as any that Toyota has ever built, 80 that are okay and 10 that cause repeated problems for our customers."
They know they have issues, just glad to hear you bought from that 10% that were good!

chris_051, Oct 1, 2:38pm
Not really, owned a few and off roaded a few, never been let down, know a few owners who don't have anything bad to say and are successive jeep buyers. says something. Those Grand Cherokees have a trick 4wd set up, and will pretty much shit on anything without front and rear lockers, not that you would know.

haventrader, Oct 1, 2:42pm
Maybe the good 10% ended up in NZ, because most (if not all) local owners are happy with them.

tgray, Oct 1, 2:44pm
What do you use to get the oil stains off your driveway!

richard198, Oct 1, 2:50pm
Link!

grangies, Oct 1, 2:53pm
Google tells me it's a Fiat Panda.

richard198, Oct 1, 3:01pm
A lot of people keep on buying Harley's.

chris_051, Oct 1, 3:06pm
Not a Harley fan myself but again I haven't heard a bad word from those with experience, OWNERS.
You remind me of a parrot, repeating common MYTHS

warthogs1, Oct 1, 3:11pm
Ok I have a Jeep. (Have owned two). Actually have one for sale (see my listings)and would consider a Jeep v8 wagon over anything jap 4x4 in petrol.

purple666, Oct 1, 4:21pm
I wonder what "Few minor scratches and chips, but pretty good nick considering how and what it was used for" means! Seems an odd thing to say in an auction.

richard198, Oct 1, 4:33pm
A few of my friends have owned Harley's but wouldn't buy again.
One of my friends owns a Jeep Cherokee but wouldn't buy again.
I've worked on both Jeeps and Harley's and wouldn't buy either!

tgray, Oct 1, 4:51pm
If you want to buy an American car, buy a chevy!
(made in Canada, lol).
