He did. Did his bad attitude show before he started the abuse!

good choice, if he abused you for not picking him up then he doesnt deserve to be picked up.
Yes I pick them up if it suits me. Often I come across hitch hikers on the open road, last time was a couple travelling to chch a week after the feb 22 quake and I was heading up there too so thought well it is going to save them many many hassles so picked them up.
I wont pick up dodgy looking characters or ones with far too much luggage to be convenient for me. Often I travel with an already pretty full vehicle so have limited space for their stuff. I also wouldn't normally pick up people when I already have company in the car.
I stop for the good looking ladies every time!

ask him is he is sick of walking. when he replies "yes", suggest he tries running. then drive off!
I drive a truck, so hitch-hikers can be a pain. but i do, when it is convenient, and much like morrisman, if they look "in need", as opposed to dodgy etc. some people look like they have just climbed out of bed and decided to hitch. LOL

I never pick up women hikers. Ever. There are way too many cases where a woman hitcher has cried foul and the bloke is instantly guilty in the eyes of the law. Sorry, ladies - blame your sisters for my attitude. Keep walking.

I used to (dropped Ewen Gilmore at the town hall for his first big show) but not now since a woman told me to drive her miles out of my way or she'd claim I tried to rape her, shouldve seen the look on her face & how fast she ran when I drove into the carpark of the nearest cop-shop & said 'go ahead then, I even come in with you'

I only pick up hitch hikers if they are going to pay.lol.But then thats my job and income to do so.
I smile when I see someone at the side of the road with thumb out trying to get a ride and they expect you to stop for a free ride when you got a bus full of people who have paid.Snow boarders in winter (rarely see skiers hitching) and Trampers in the summer.

Never, ever stand security for someone's loan.
And never, ever pick up a hitch-hiker.

Hitched out of Invercargill once - picked up at 7am by a Falcon full of huge Maori blokes just finished a stint at sea, really nice guys - dropped me off in Gore & even bought me a pie on their way home - gotta say when they first pulled up I almost said I was waiting for someone ha
Sat in Gore for 2 hours & had an 'interesting' ride to Dunedin with a guy that couldnt stay on our side of the road & seemed to have some issues with his grey matter The first & last hitchhiking experience
Ive picked up a few people over the years, one guy had killed a pig near Ranfurly & his Landrover had broken down way up in the hills - he was walking down the road carrying it over his shoulder covered in dried blood - not a great sight at around midnight, had managed about 15kms before I saw him We put the pig in the boot & I took him to Middlemarch in the end, very happy guy

Oh hell yes, always pick up two females, or better twins (female). Then I get to write. Dear Penthouse, I never thought this would happen to me but just the other day I picked up 2 Sweedish hitch hikers,6 foot blonde twins and stunning they were.

If they're sit'n on their arse I won't waste my time but if they're actually try'n to get where they're go'n I just might throw'em on-board.like the say'n goes.'I only help those who are help'n themselves'

.And then I woke up Shipwrecked! (To Gunhand) I will If I am alone, and only for decent looking types. Never can tell I guess. Not 2/3/4 young rough looking types with a tray of piss etc. AND only if they make an effort to walk! I have piked up quite a few people, and done a lot of hitch hiking also. Good way to get around if you are not on a schedule. Been to Wanganui/Whangarei/Auckland/Ha- milton etc. Been dropped to the door, and done 4-5 hours walking also! Picked up two Sheilas one arvo near Wellington, realised they were young ~ 14/15yo friends, on their way to Auckland. Turned out they had lied to their parents, and then hitched to CH-CH for a few days, then back to AK. WTF! I was heading up to Tapu (Thames coast) but it was well dark by the time we got near SH27 and they said you can't drop us here, asked if they wanted to go to the police station, HELL NO they said, so I wondered about what could happen, (mainly to me if they got attacked had I dropped them off) so I took them both home, different suburbs in AK and watched them to the door at around 11pm that night. Stupid of me to not drop them to a cop shop earlier in the day. Got home at about 1am. One thing I do if I pick someone up is never ask them to put their seatbelt on. They should figure it out, or if they are up to some shady sh1t, then I will survive the crash better. Got a ride once from Bulls to Taihape where I bailed out, sh4t my pants as the trainee Doctor (and driver) drove a mk1 Laser for all it was worth and pushing the car so hard I asked him to slow down a few times. The funniest story was a guy picked me up at Bombay and headed North. No WOF or reg, he said he would pick me up if I agreed to pay half the fine if caught, so I said Ummm of course (tuis). At the old cook St. (AK) exit, he just stopped in the middle of the motorway, said he'd changed his mind and could I get out! So I got out and he ducked down Cook st. Walked about 2km along the Motorway, got abused heaps, then a lift to Orewa.

Had a fight with a Sheila at a party in Manurewa, packed a sad, and hitched to Thames pissing down with rain in the middle of the night, Walked about 5km along Ramarama straight with a Banana box over my head to help keep rain out. A car came along at a million miles an hour, skidded to a halt about 100m in front of me after a huge slide, reversed back to me. The window wound down and I ran over. The guy said "Sh1t mate, thought you were someone else!" and went screaming off again!

A friend told me he and a friend were picked up when they were HHing by a couple of guys in a hotted up Holden ute (=4 of them in the cab, no seatbelts on). The driver and matehad been drinking and were driving like maniacs. The ute went over a small rise, let the ground, landed on the other side of the road and smashed into a family in their small car. Some people in the family were injured, there were Police, ambos etc. A very bad scene with a court case etc to follow. My friend still feels crap about it now.

Damn right, the other problem with that is a couple of days or weeks later you flick on the TV and you find out that said person is missing or a body has been found somewhere dumped and the cops are looking for someone in relation to the disappearance, that is a description of YOU and your vehicle who was the last person seen with the victim.Erm would rather not go there thanks.
