Believe it or not these engines are particuly fussy on which oil they use, i have heard of many in recent months destroying camshafts due to wrong oil. If the oil is too thick the rollers on the lifters will slip and not turn, causing excessive wear on cam lobes, I would recommend a high zinc 10w30 or add a zinc additive. Zinc additive is widely available these days at performance shops, and for the sake of an extra $20 per oil change its good insurance, hope this helps

why are people saying they use 10w 60 then!

Castrol Edge 10W 60 is highly recommended and well used by a LOT of LS1 owners including myself. Just Google LS1 oil type and you'll get some answers.

Mobil 1 10w 30 is the manufacturers recommendaton and also used by lots of LS1 owners.Myself included

Thanks for info re; oil chaps! I find despite my intention to mostly use my LS1 for trips to work, I have actually been driving it pretty damn hard (its just such a buzz!) so the least I can do is keep it well maintained and pump nice clean oil through it. So I will be following your advice.

When I'm older, and in a high paying job. I'm chucking an LS1 in an MX5. :)
