You are mistaken if you think you can have a prang uninsured& just pay $10 week .Matebroke atransformer power pole, the power companygot court orders to seize any property he owned to the value ofdamage +costs . Then they got agarnishee on his wagesto pay balance as what he owned didnt cover it .Any one can do it& can claim all lawyers fees as well .

It's all a hypothetical argument.
But I see the pain all the time. Uninsured car last week hit by uninsured car, needing 2 doors and a front guard repair. Got a good quote on doors at $170 for both, (expect cheap to be $120 each) $700 for paint, about $400 labour and a wheel alignment.
Disgruntled owners probably paid 3K for the car, so still think it's worth that much, even though it now looks like a 1K crappa - pre accident.
The one that hit it might have to cough-up more to fix it than what the cars worth.
Second option I gave them was to find doors and guard the right colour, then just bolt them on and forget about any imperfections. But that was only option B - in the case that they may have to pay for it themselves coz no-one else was going to.

So you didn't know!

And that's reality.
I've heard 9K isn't out of the question for a plain pole, let alone one with a transformer!

no i didn't. but i'm still a knowitall

If you run around crashing into inanimate objects I dare say you deserve a good financial reaming and to lose your license for 12 months minimum. See my comment regarding letter boxes in post #74 of this very thread.

That's something that really irks me. the penalty for crashing into another vehicle from inattention is usually less than a 20km/h over the speed limit infringement fee. WTF is up with that!

lookoutas, Oct 30, 10:37am
Just another point regarding that 3K cover.
You Insurance Co will only pay out if you can present the perpetraters arse to them on a platter so they can claim remuneration. (At $10/week)

'Losing brakes' is a maintenance and ignorance issue. Sometimes it's a straight gamble. You can't complain when you gamble and lose.

The good thing about this MB is to learn things - and I've learnt plenty.

When you're not at fault you'll have little trouble claiming it. I know some people that have been in exactly that scenario and all they needed to do was provide the details of the other party. Neither ended up even having to go to the DT becasue the insurance company scared them into submission.
