I find that the sight of my beaten up Hilux Surf bearing down on ppl that cut me off in traffic, with the horns blasting, tends to get them moving out of the way fairly fast.
PPL seem to think that just because the paint is crazy cracked to heck & theres a few very minor dents on it, that it won't be insured . . . LOL yea Tui (of course it's fully insured) now GET the frick OUT OF MY WAY
(not often I use that attitude, but it's real handy some days when getting cut off in traffic)
Just happen to do that yesterday to 1 of the boy's buddys parked across our driveway AND on the grass verge. LMAO, certainlly got HIS butt moving in a hurry
Blimin amazing how many tidy & new /newer cars don't have any form of insurance

always been insured until now. I consider it a luxury i can go without. I have only used my car insurance once, for a stolen car. They payed out more than i bought the car for., and my contents insurance for a stolen mountain bike. Eight months old, payed near $600 for it and i got a cheque from the insurance company for $240. Depreciation and less excess. i

The insurance wont help you if you are driving in a recless way and cause an accident.

2006-ish HSV v8 holden got pulled up around here a few months ago for doing burnouts. Got chatting to the cop after the dude had left & the Holden didn't have any reg/wof or insurance for it.
In most cases . A big part of the hassles of being hit by someone with no insurance is that most insurers won't pay out the excess until liability has been proven & confirmed as not your fault. If they can't catch up with the person that caused the accident, then you loose out on the excess Claiming costs on an uninsured person becomes a civil matter & can only be dealt with in the small claims court.
If both partys are insured, then the 2 companys involved deal with it all & the victim gets paid out fully. Even 3rd party is way better then no insurance

Wrong on a case by case basis. I know of several ppl that have been paid out (less excess). A couple of those ppl have now been refused insurance because of multiple claims

yea I used to be like that until I saw the legal mess some ppl get in to & the total loss of transport. Even being under insured is a lot better then nothing at all.

Yea hate it when thats bought in to it but some items simply DO Depreciate fast. Lose of excess would have been because of not catching anybody for the theft. Reciepts ARE very handy for claims. How many ppl keep receipts for big $$ stuff they brought last week

I dont drive like an idiot , never will. No flash cars like that in Whakatane anyway. And if i do i'll pay it off at $10 a week, thats way cheaper than paying for insurance.

I don't waste money on insurance. Chances are if you believe it's a case of "when, not if" you're just not a very good driver.

Glass cover alone is worth it for me - windscreens for modern cars a jolly expensive

What happens if you are the second car at the traffic lights, and you get rear ended and your car hits the car in front! Who would end up paying for the damage to the car in front of you!

would have to be a pretty good whack. sit at the lights with the brake on

It's happened to me in Auckland many years ago. I was rear ended by a Chrysler Valiant Charger at 50 odd km/h, and 1.3 litre Mitsubishi's brakes did SFA to stop it, in fact, they just made the rear end of my car look worse.

immm, they are a heavy motor vehicle i guess. but had the car in front of you had it's brakes on i doubt you would have moved it much - which is the scenario we are talking of.

I was pondering not getting insurance for my cheapest car, but at $6 a month.

The vehicle AT FAULT - i.e. the vehicle that failed to stop in time, hitting you, that caused the damage your vehicle inflicted on the vehicle in front of yours.
How do I know!
I rear-ended one car, shunted it into the vehicle in front of it, and had to pay for both.
The Law regards it as, you have inflicted damage on the vehicle as if you hit it, not the one you shunted into it.
This ONE TIME I didn't have insurance, I paid from my own pocket for the second vehicle, and am still paying for the first.
$7400 is a bloody expensive lesson.
