New roundabout at Taupiri on existing SH1.

They are changing the road to include a new roundabout . This has a 15
degree plus off camber which will slow southboundtrucks or they will rollover causing longqueses travelling south from Huntly.

kazbanz, Nov 14, 6:44am
Hmmm--You mean the roundabout put in to ease traffic conjestion onto the hamilton Bypass!
If it is then I'm struggling to see the issue.Southbound traffic is already at a slower pace anyway because of theslow right hand turn in there

smac, Nov 14, 6:48am
You might wanna check that figure of 15% too.

girlracer2005, Nov 14, 6:49am
i think its great should be less accdents there from people trying to get out of gordenting road

crzyhrse, Nov 14, 7:40am
Gordenting Road! ROFLMAO

fiatracer, Nov 14, 7:51am
less gordenting conjested queses

5425, Nov 14, 8:09am
""New roundabout at Taupiri on existing SH1""" is not at Hamilton. About 25 km's north by existing roads.

rob_man, Nov 14, 8:14am
I think Kaz is aware of that, the bypass he mentions is the one that goes through Gordonton Rd (gordenting) from Taupiri to Cambridge.

5425, Nov 14, 11:06am
Sorry only 13 km's north oh Hamilton on SHW.1 The connecting road has just started to be built. They are completed both ends basicially

smac, Nov 14, 11:08am
Revised the 15 degree camber yet! You're obviously still watching this.

richardmayes, Nov 14, 11:15am
Queses and conjestion at Gordenting!

I couldn't blame truck drivers if they crashed their rigs, in their haste to get away before the illiteracy infects them too.

twink19, Nov 14, 11:22am
saw a couple of weeks ago, might not be exactly 15 deg, but quite a bit of camber

smac, Nov 14, 11:33am
Riiight. The image below is about 17 degrees (maybe a little less).Still think 15 sounds like a fair description of a round about on SH1!

crzyhrse, Nov 14, 11:58am
So maybe 14º! So across a 3m lane it falls 700mm!

smac, Nov 14, 12:00pm
Anyone wanna do that in a Mitzi Delica!

5425, Nov 14, 12:34pm
Obviously maths is not your strong point. The roadway is off camber similar to the roundabout to route K in Taurange where they display truck warning for rollover.

smac, Nov 14, 12:37pm
Ahh right, now we're getting somewhere. SO, what is the camber of that round about then!

Wee bit of advice, I wouldn't question other's maths skills after your initial post.

mrfxit, Nov 14, 1:03pm
Holy crud.
If they stick a hefty camber on that 1, I can see a repeat of what happened at Te Rapa/ Burger King round about when it 1st went in.
Trucks off on a regular basis.

kazbanz, Nov 14, 1:16pm
WOA guys. I was on that road yesterday. There are going to beTWOnew roundabouts.
ONE is the intersection for the Hamilton bypass to Cambridge/south
The other one Im not actually sure about.It looks to me like the MAIN road is going to go underneath it and the roundabout is going to be on a bridgefor local traffic entering/leaving the road. Given its being built by the same company that built the other 3 big roundabouts entering Hamilton I strongly suspect that they will when finished look like the existing roundabouts.
But DEFINITELY the roundabout you refer to is almost straight after a (for a heavy vehicle) sharp right turn and into a 70 km/h zone.

twink19, Nov 14, 1:26pm
maybe 10 deg any advance on that

smac, Nov 14, 1:49pm
I don't actually know exactly.but I would think 2 would be closer.

ninja_man, Nov 14, 2:08pm
3-5 degree camber is my guess

crzyhrse, Nov 14, 2:50pm
Au contraire. My maths is just fine. A 14º angle on the road across a 3m lane (assuming the lane is 3m wide on its surface, which then forms the hypotenuse) makes the fall across the lane 726mm.

Sine 14º = a / 3000
a = 3000 sin 14º
a = 726mm (3 s.f.)
Or I could do it with the Sine Rule
a/sine A = b/Sin b = c/Sin c.
Where:
a = 3000
A = 90º
b = !
B = 14º
3000 / Sin 90º = b / Sin 14º
b= (3000 Sin 14º / Sin 90º) = 726mm (3 s.f.)

You friggin' doofus.

richardmayes, Nov 14, 2:58pm
At what angle does it cease to be the driver's own fault he crashed his truck, and become the angle's fault!

mrfxit, Nov 14, 3:23pm
If it IS the 1 I think op is talking about & I am pretty sure, then it's being built about 100 meters south from the Taupiri mountain/ bridge (Huntly) to link the main road & the Gordonton road
