Interesting storys here and i like some of the posts that are for turners side, I work for turners auctions and the cash now is just another option we can offer, we will also tell you what your vehicle may make through auction and give you the descision to make cash now or auction and we all know these days buyers are harder then ever on paying asking prices with so many options on trademe and other websites and trust me we also get bitten with vehicles also as the general public wont always be honest with us on there vehicles especially with intermitent faults and we dont pressure anyone to part with there car if they don't want to,I have sometimes tried vehicles for up to 8 auctions to get best result for my customers we also only provide a service and in tough economic times some people have to cash there cars up for all sorts of reasons and correct in saying we don't have the margins in the vehicles, When people call us rip offs it does offend me as you can always try and sell your car privately with the 40,000 other cars for sale at any one time in NZ, If you are asking for cash price then and there there is a reason usually

Next time someone pops in with a bucket of fullstops and they are cheapish, buy them, In fact buy them even if they are not cheap.

Hmm--I do have to wonder -just how much extra the seller pays if turners muck it up first time and have to take a car through 8 auctions to sell it. was it $50 auction fee PER AUCTION. Paint me cynicalbut $400 extra clipped seems like a great deal to me -For turners. Interesting that turners are pushing for auction sales on TM to be covered by the CGA yet not for themselves

I find these pages more amusing reading them then participating usually, they always go straight of the subject and on to something else made for other threads hahaha, i won't loose sleep due to my punctuation

We tell customers all the time what there car is worth but some customers are unrealistic with prices so we will try and make that happen for them and then you gen buyers who don't see vehicles true value and want to pay nothing for it. Everyone wants a bargin but always want more for there stuff when wanting to sell its human nature, and on pricing of per auctions talk to the consultants as in all businesses we want your business

Hey just one question. At the auctions are there really bidders on line to the dozen or so turners staff standing around on the phone!
executive17,
Jul 16, 2:36pm
Definately we have quite a lot of out of townbidders who have slow internet and can't use our online live auction system or not confident on bidding online and also a lot of dealers who don't want to watch whole auction for a couple of possible vehicles or private people may be working during day auctions as anyone can request a phone bid so plenty of reasons

Not a very transparent system though is it!

Had a couple of experiences with Turners and have always found their staff polite and friendly .no issues there. However can someone explain why during an auction they seem to take bids from the back of the room .and when you look around for these mystery bidders where the h. are they !

Just took my 2001 Golf GTI in to see what they'd give me, the agent said it would make 4500 - 5500 at auction out of which I might net $4000, after a 15 minute inspection they offered me $3500 cash now. Similar cars currently on TM are selling for about 5-7K

In fairness, that's probably the sort of margin they need to make it profitable. No doubt they will get "suckered" with a few that have intermittent or non-obvious but expensive faults etc.
Sometimes its worth it for the convieniance of being able to just drive in and sell. Like if you were a tourist or seasonal worker.
As always. do your own math!

makes perfect sense. They are trying to make a living. Imagine their over heads, let alone the risk they would take in buying a car that has hidden faults. Regardless of how careful they are, they will strike the odd dud that's going to cost them. with out a decent mark up, they might as well start shutting the doors now.But the obvious answer is, wait for it, wait just a little more, just a little more *drum role please*tada, just sell iton trademeyour self and cut out the middle man. :-)
