How would you react! A well dressed guy in a holden commodore flashed his lights at me when I merged onto the motorway in front of him today. He continued to do so a number of times and put his left indicator on, so I presumed he was an unmarked police car and pulled over to the side of the motorway. He questioned my merging manoeuvre, which I explained was in line with the law (I have been driving for 31 years and no incidents/accidents) and after some discussion, he said he was a concerned 'member of the public' and cautioned me. After realising he wasn't a law enforcement official, I asked for his name which he refused, so I took down his registration number. I personally feel pretty hacked off someone would cause me to stop on the motorway in this manner on some self-righteous campaign!

Report the dork for impersonating a copper.

Sounds like typical Holden Munter behaviour to me.
Was it a red V6! They're the worst offenders.

Exactly, its one of the few crimes that gets taken seriously.

sounds like a wanker, then again, only a wanker would have pulled over!

So your one of these people who may have something hanging off there car or some other non detectable problem by you and some member of the public trys to warn you by flashing there lights at you to hopefully make you pull over to save more damage or what ever but you dont because your not a wanker a.Ive done this and had some happy people with my effort. There could and is more than one reason someone may want you to pull over, not all are sinister.

if you are really that pissed of, go and lay a complaint with the police. Impersonating a police officer is a fairly serious crime - and leading a person to beleive you are a cop through your actions (without literally saying 'im a cop') is sufficient enough to cause concern.
poppajn,

Quite within his rights if he was concerned, but whether you stop or not is another matter.

yeh i wouldve told him to go fork himself, done a skid and ran over his foot.
i have stopped a couple people by doing the same thing, one was a lady driving a new legacy had a flat tyre it was getting ripped apart and belching smoke. So i got her to pull over and changed it for her, she knew something was wrong but was just going to continue driving home (about 10ks down the road) so her hubby could fix it.
i couldnt believe that. she wouldve destroyed her rim all because she didnt "know how to change a tyre" which i think is an excuse for being ignorant

He did not impersonate a police officer he flashed his he light and asked the poster to pull over.it was up to the poster what they wanted to do with out red and blue flashing lights keep driving
this guy had a little vent at poster and then identified them selves as a member of the public
rsr72,

#13 - Was he! Did he say he was police! Poster #1 is foolish for pulling over without flashing lights identification and uniform. What is worrying is that the guy could be trying it on women at night. In any event should be reported to police and a complaint made.

I nearly didnt pull over once, 4x4 came screaming up behind me and flashed his high beams, the turned on all his spotlights (on top of the roof). I was going to boot it (I had just done a small skid in some gravel on the side of the road in a rural area just out of hamilton). I chose to stop instead (young dumb and looking for confrontation). Once stopped the driver of the 4x4 turned on his blue and red flashings. bloody lucky I didnt drop a gear and boot it. Got let off no ticket BTW.
I may have stopped in this circumstance, but as soon as I realised it was no cop, and there was nothing wrong with my car I would Have demanded to see his license, then told him toF Off. taken a rego number, and report to the police.
What a fuckwit

Update: I have reported him to the police, who thanked me and said they will be having a word with him, as pulling someone over on the motorway in that manner was totally unacceptable.

Well done It needs to be done, A guy was doing that in oz he took a girl back to a self storage shed and kept her there

You don't have to stop except for flashing red & blue lights. He didn't pull you over. You chose to stop to see what he wanted.

I'm just trying to decide if I'd pull over and stop if a Fiat Multipla with flashing lights came up behind me.

Concerned is hardly reason to stop on a motorway, he could have slowed up to allow more space for the merge in the 1st place.
fryan1962,

No it happened in Geelong VictoriaAustralia he lined storage shed and made rooms inside it he pretended to be a cop but he had the flashing lights
