not that I saw, could have happened without my knowledge, definitely not.
As I said, the traffic was free flowing, there was no stuck in anything. Besides, I was riding a motorbike and could have easily done the same. I'd just rather die of natural causes.

So paying ACC levies would fix the stupidity, right! Nah, that just would make some cyclist feeling more bulletproof and risktaking as they would think that having paid ACC, they would get more respect from motorists.

If when cycling and you get a puncture please take your bike right off the road and fix it, not have half it on the road, especially when theres /was 15 feet of clear space to do it.that one was lucky there were no oncoming cars.

On Tamaki Drive, its the "lycra louts" who are the menace.Hordes of them. But I am waiting for one or more to get creamed through their shortcutting through the Mission Bay east bound bus lane - as cars turn left into the Mission Bay car park.I have yet to see a cyclist avoiding the traffic lights by using this route ever look for other vehicles. And these morons abuse car drivers!

I bike just as much as I drive. The commute to work is hairy to say the least; I obey all road rules but still almost getting wiped out at least once a week. Last week I was biking down a straight road with a side street coming off and a car overtook me before putting the brakes on right in front of me to give way to a car turning right. However, there was so much traffic the right turning car wouldn't have been able to turn for at least another 60 secs until a break in the traffic. So here I am swerving into traffic to avoid a massive crash. I pulled the fingers and let rip with swearwords through her open window but doubt it sunk in. I have found riding dirt single track at speed after dark with a headlamp is far safer than a commute to work.
It goes both ways though as I shake my head when I see fellow cyclists acting crazy, especially on bunch rides.

I did this on Lake Wakatipu to avoid a narrow and winding section of SH from Kingston to Half Way Bay on my B2C Journey. I used my kayak to do that 8km. That is hardly practical in some places as the river may have deadly rapids and transitions take too much time. So road is safer and faster.

The driver education is lacking in New Zealand. Too many drivers have been educated by their parents to drive. These parents then pass on their bad habits to their kids. So if drivers are that bad, what do you expect from cyclists who might not even have a drivers license.

I'm betting that 90% of the cyclists you see on the road actually also drive either a car or a motorbike too. So they likely have already paid ACC levies, so it's a bit silly to even pull that up as an issue that you may have with cyclists.
If you really want to go after someone then why don't you speak out against all those children who ride bikes but definitely do not own cars or pay ACC levies, those damn freeloaders!

It's reasonable, it doesn't need to be fair.Taxation in essence is unfair, you're robbing Peter to pay Paul.Whether it's reasonable though! I would think it is.Registration on a cyclist though, sounds unreasonable and unenforceable, the cost of such a programme would be more than it retrieves in levies.I think Seattle has a programme which is $9 per year, some parts of CA have a $8 for 3 years registration programme.

I'd have absolutely no problem with that. Just as long as the guilty party in ANY & ALL vehicle accidents is made to cough-up for the full cost of their actions. I think you'd find motorist's would be the first to complain about that one.

Reminds me of me making a bicycle out of parts when I was 17 in Finland. The brakes were not very good on the bike as it was rear drum brake. On my way to school I hit a car on the intersection. I was was wrong as I came from left and should have been able to stop. I broke my collarbone and ended up paying for the dent I caused on the car. Fair enough but lucky I did not hit my head as I did not have a helmet then. I guess that I learned from that as I have not had any road accidents on a bike since.

I got given a hi-viz vest by a logging contractor I met by chance. I thought that vest might not show much behind the recumbent trike seat but it does make a difference.

The public road is no environment for cyclists, The dynamics of it !small things will always give way to bigger things, On an open road with 100km/hrlimit & a cyclist pedalling on a wobbleat 10km/hrintoa head or side windjust doesn't gelwith meas no one can cycle safely on a public road , Safety is about prevention, so why put yourself in a situation wheretragedy happens ! and even worse bytrying to justify free use ofa public road designed specifically for motorised vehicles. If there is a need to cycleplease use a cycle track orotherwise catch a bus or sharea car, whatever ,Cyclists pleasejust keep off the roads foryour own & everyone elses safety .

Lol not like I blindly cycle along but yes, better than the crazies on the road. Scariest ever ride was when I ran out of fuel due to a broken fuel line so went and got fuel from my place a cycled back, people were going past me like loons and there was no room on the side of the road cause it was just ditch and trees.

i cycle and drive but am shocked at the lack of commuter cyclist these days. I wear ordinary clothing and bike to town and back. often i dont see another cyclists. i have those fancy cycle lanes all to myself. Get rid of the mandatory helmet law and we will see more cyclists. I have an exemption and love to feel the wind in what is left of my hair.

Aah yes I am covered by ACC and rightly so. Drunk drivers are also covered. Stupid trampers who get caught out in the bush are covered so I feel no guilt rather entitlement. you will be hapy to know that in over 50yrs of commuter cycling i have not required any treatment at a hospital. Just bruises and scrapes from ycling as a kid. by all means choose to wear a polystyrene lid but get rid of the law. all the cyclists who died in the last few years were wearing helmets and most died in relatively low speed impacts with cars. One hit a dog at slow speed and went over the handlebars and was killed. he had a helmet securely strapped on. makes you wonder doesnt it!

and at least head splat is a quick clean kill and so costs ACC far les just the grant for the funeral.
