Ah yes esprit, but you miss the point. There is an exemption process in place to recognise that the legislation is not always fair or reasonable. On that basis the judge ruled.

Thankyou zirconuim for your kind message. Already the burden has been lifted from his Mother, and life looks a lot better for them. Now all we need is the PSA bacteria to be sorted out.

Is Little Tommy allowed to drive with the silver spoon in his mouth or does he have to remove it when behind the wheel!

I got approved an exemption to travel home from work after 10pm. Just took in a letter from my employer and they sent me the exemption in the post. No issues there

Because some people didn't run out and get a cage licence at 15 and lead adult lifes that require them to break the 'rules'

In English please!

Some people who are not 15 have only just got their cage (i.e. car) restricted licences.

Agree, when you see other crap that goes on with this stupid system, invented by halfwits, obviously

here`s a senario,a boyhas a restricted licence, .he has two brothers, one has a job , the other ison the dole.the one with the licence cannot legally drive his brother to work, but he can legally drive the other one to the pub, because he is on welfare.absolute stupidity

And this is in the interests of road safety ! WTF !.read from LTNZ website

You cannot normally carry passengers, unless you have a supervisor with you.The only passengers you can carry without a supervisor are:
your spouse, or the person you live with as if you were married or with whom you are joined in a civil union
children who live with you and are under the care of you or your spouse (that is, you or your spouse are their parent or guardian
your parent or guardian
relatives who live with you and who are on a social security benefit
someone you look after as their primary caregiver.

to danni-2254 - because you were in paid employment. In court the Judge also ruled that the LTNZ cannot differnentiate between paid employment, and the technical work my grandson was doing for sound and lighting for a show. The LTNZ tried the angle that because it was not ;paid employment it didn't count, the judge ruled otherwise. Incidentally the boy who was doing this before my grandson is now fully employed at Bay Court. So it could lead in the future to a job.

to usdefault - did you know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!

following my Grandson's sucessful passing of his full licence, to drive a car, he is now qualified to become an Air Traffic Controller when he turns 20. Goodness I hope the LTNZ are wrong about him being an unsafe driver, imagine the damage he could do in the Control Tower of an Airport. He goes to Christchurch in May for an induction.
I have now had a reply from the Minister of Transport, who says the LTNZ have "taken note" of the Judges comments. So why do you ask does the form still say hardship and inconvenience will n ot be considered! Have written to the Minister to ask this question, hope I don't die of old age before he replies. It took nearly 3 months last time. Just as well he is only running the country and not a business, suspect all his customers would have gone elsewhere. I feel a visit to Winnie coming on

Well well, the minister has finally conceeded defeat, and put me in touch with one Kelly Timms, who appears to the the "leader" of the exemption "team". Had an interesting conversation with her about the Judges ruling! She tells me she doesn't exactly think they were wrong, but the Judge just had a different opinion from them. Hmmmmm!
She also had some difficulty telling the difference between the decision being based on statisticsbutwent onto tell me that each case was judged on its individual merits! Was unable to tell me why on those grounds my grandson was refused. Also unable to answer satisfactorily how it is he was judged to be "unsafe" at the end of November, but perfectly ok to sit his full licence at the end of January. Her reasoning was that he had to pass a full licence in January, but not in November. Odd to say the least. Hopefully they have learnt something from this. Can't now decide whether to pursue this, or not. Feel a visit to Winnie coming on.
