I was reading the Q&A on this auction, seems like the prospective buyer is being pretty tough on the seller.
What do you think!

topspdmtrsport is a regular poster in Motoring, I'm sure he will be along soon to justify to you why he asked the questions!

its the whole auction thing. back in the day when the buyer would come round after reading your ad in the trade and exchange. You talk cars and shoot shit for 10 minutes and deal done (or not). buying a car based on photos and a description gives me the shits. Its a pain for buyer and seller alike. perhaps TSMTS was short on coffee or ran out of smokes or something.

For instance, the seller says "got A/C but no gas".
Or, does it mean, "the compressor's shagged but I'm playing dumb"!
For the most part though, car auctions do require a good level of effort on the seller's part and it doesn't surprise me that not everyone is a top and honest salesman.

If you were genuinely unterested you would go look or at least make a phone call and not act like he hasint told him its blown up to the seller for christ sake what are you expecting to get for a $3000, 13 year old, 300,000km car! a new 2011 HSV GTS!

sometimes you do forget to add some faults, i generally write a list and tell people to ph me and and i explain that way aswell.

You can always list on here as a classified.
I've sold two cars that way and its good because the buyer can come and drive the car and make their own decision.

Sounds like TM's at wrong time of the month!

Haven't seen him around these parts in a while:) 1st questions fair enough, although maybe a bit long winded for the buyer who may have thought he was being harsh, but Topspd knows these cars inside and out so knows what to look for fault wise. He goes through a few Commies from memory so may be an interested buyer perhaps just doing his homework!

That listing tells you very little about the car other than the fact a lot of engine parts and the engine itself have been replaced, and possibly the diff is on the way out.Theres nothing wrong with asking further questions, especially if they are known problem areas with a particular model, to get a better picture of what you are bidding on.In some cases people genuinely forget about minor things as they have got used to living with them, other times they are deliberately left out to avoid putting people off.It might have been put a bit bluntly perhaps!

The first question was totally fair enough, but it seemed a little unnecessary to come back in and punish the guy for not being thorough enough.I don't really have an opinion either way, I just don't see that kind of interaction on here very often.
Perhaps I need to go a little deeper explaining things on my car listing.
hmm.

When making a decision to view a car ornot its important to have all the facts. If I fronted up to view that car based on the description in the advert I'd be pretty pissed off if then -having possibly travelled for an hour or two I found that the AC wasn't working and the interior was filthy.

Please note: he there is no mention of A/C in the description, so for all intense purposes he was selling it without it. So why comment further down in the Q&A section. A 300km car is not going to have perfect trim is it! Back pockets on Commodores fall off 50km ones which everyone knows. In fact I thought the important areas were covered well and if I was interested I would have rung, and not left a shitty comment further down. That was very unnecessary. IMO.

yea pretty harsh. must have his period

As a buyer, Id expect all the features of the car listed to be working, as said above A/C isnt listed so Id would expect it didnt have it or it dodnt work.
If I was the seller I'd feel the 1st question was fair, but to his 2nd question/comment was not, given the cars quite high km. If I was selling I'd have pics of the cabin though

I think the seller has handled it well. Making the *welcome to view* comment seems sensible.

Ohhhhh I am sorry biker_69 I should have checked with you before I posted. Fancy someone having an opinion that isn't in line with yours. The unequivocal King and Know All of the message board, I bow & kneel to your ultimate Know Allness. LMAO. Please accept my most insincereapology.

These are common faults in VT commodores - I dont see whats wrong with asking about them.
I bought my VS thinking it had A/C only to find the compressor, evaporator, condenser and all the piping and tx valve were missing. Quite literally all it had left was the A/C button and relay.

at the end of the day its not a new car, its got really hi KM's and it cheap.really whats he expecting!
franc123,
Jan 20, 3:55pm
Its more about being upfront and disclosing issues there might be to the best of their knowledge, the age, km's and pricing has little to do with that. You don't expect a private seller to be fully conversant with all known issues affecting a given model, nor do you expect a cheap high km car to be perfect but you do expect a reasonable degree of honesty.

I think topspeed was having a genuine questioning of the seller. He is not the type of guy to piss in your pocket, and tell you its raining. Dont see any harm in getting the truth!

While I understand asking questions I don't think he needed to put that 2nd comment down, what was the owner being dishonest about! that the air con needs gas! Surely if he just picked up the phone and talked the owner he would have got a better picture of the car and had no need to place that comment. I think it was a little unfair of him to do that to be honest, perhaps it's a ploy to put other bidders off.

It's one of those deals where how much detail do you need to put into your ad.The left front tyre has 5 mm tread, the right front 6mm etc. ! The rubber on the brake pedal is worn! The seller has to the best of his knowledge described the mechanical condition of the car.Prompted by a question he had to admit that the a/c didn't work and the seat pockets were missing/damaged.It looks like he could be interested in selling it around the 3k mark so any potential buyers should realise that it's not going to be a minter.A quick phone call would sort out the good points and bad points. IMO I don't think topspeed needed to push the point.

Ohhh biker, I think the male chicken is what you hold onto, very tightly. Lucky it has a head on it or you would smack yourself in the face. The issue is not that you have your opinion which with most people I respect. It is the intermation that it is not only your opinion but the fact is your thought, that what you say is always right, and don't even try to prove me wrong because you won't, attitude you have. The use of the word "Moron" to me has an autobiographical reference. You should look it up, it refers to you perfectly. Strange isn't how you & I never see eye to eye. Maybe my higher intellect is just to much for you. LOL
