to much trouble with the RMA. now if it was rugby, it would happen over night and be paid for, there is Hampton Downs, Pukekohe, Taupo that could be used.

mokaubach, Dec 7, 7:20am
Dead right, the bloody RMA is a crock, can be fast tracked (ala CHCH) if it is considered important enough.

rug_nz, Dec 7, 8:49am
If it was rugby TV3 wouldn't be playing it the day after and at midnight!

mellisa2000, Dec 7, 9:04am
Yeah, sucks big-time. C'mon Hampton Downs!
At the moment though, where do they accommodate the 600 crew, 40-50 cars and all the clobber!

ninja_man, Dec 7, 9:48am
hampton downs still needs grandstands built in order to host the event.

twink19, Dec 7, 6:22pm
accomodation not a problem, its the same distance as Pukekohe from Auckland

kazbanz, Dec 7, 7:10pm
I really like the whenuapai optiion to be honest. simply because its very close to a major population centre

serf407, Dec 7, 7:35pm
The money that would be necessary to prepare a circuit at Whenuapai would be better spent at Hampton Downs upgrading the facilities and extending the track length.

gadgit3, Dec 7, 7:54pm
Hampton Downs will never happen because of the lack of control of the apartments and how many people can come and go with no revinue for ASC. Also needs finishing .

mopsy3, Dec 7, 9:30pm
The track is not long enough or wide enough at Hampton downs, not to mention it is financially in the poos already. Taupo - are you kidding!. Puke - needs too much money thrown at it to get it up to safety standards and improve the track, pits etc. Who would fund it!
V8SC are not camparable to RWC in any way, shape or form. How many countries participate in V8 SC and how many people actually compete in it at an amateur level! What is the world following of V8SC compared to RWC!

ETA Hampton isnt even allowed to have enough spectators on the grounds to watch a V8SC event into the bargain.

rsr72, Dec 7, 9:42pm
Yep, resource consents limit the number allowed in.

rayzor14, Dec 7, 11:43pm
I am at a loss as to why Taupo seems to be ignored in this equation. It has a track that has proven more than adequate for A1 GP and lets face it if A1 could run there then the track is certainly up to V8SC standards.
The argument might be that there is insufficient infrastructure e.g spectator seating, parking etc etc but the truth is that all of those things have been assembled on a temporary basis at street races, rugby and every other event anyway so the same could be done.
From an accomodation angle Taupo is more than adequately equipped with a huge range of hotels, motels, motor camps and backpackers hostels.

floscey, Dec 7, 11:47pm
Tony C doesnt like permenant circuits because he cant get as much profit as ripping councils off . Hamilton is not the only circuit that has been duped by v8sc. Pukekohe is a dump and needs a total make over ,facilities are still the same as 1985.

elect70, Dec 8, 2:55am
Who cares we have our own super tourers& more aussie driversmay come over for their off season, ifthey are allowed ,Dont need$ grubbingV8SC & HD have plenty of other eventsthat dont need mega $ in sponsorship

floscey, Dec 8, 3:07am
get rid of the v8sc and bring the Muscle car masters to NZ.

mokaubach, Dec 8, 5:42am
Have a look at how many Grandstands they have at Simmons Plains Raceway! : http://tasmania.v8supercars.com.au/Portals/v8/RadEditor/Documents/Tickets_Maps/V8SC_11_TAS_MAP_V2.pdf

dr.doolittle, Dec 8, 5:50am
I heard some goon called murphy bitchin about how people (I assume he meant local bodies & government) should be supporting V8's.
If he's so passionate about them, then he should put his money where his mouth is. That goes for anyone & any hobby/sport.

Minority 'sport'.-
. ppfffffftt.

twink19, Dec 8, 6:13am
look at how many millions got thrown at the rugby by the govt, and another couple of hundred thousand at the last minute by coucil.
and touring car masters would be much better
and there are shorter tracks used by V8SC

mokaubach, Dec 8, 6:14am
10's of Millions of dollars have been poured into Street Circuits over the last 30 years in NZ and what do we have to show for it today!.zip.
Street circuits come after proper permanent tracks and facilities are in place, they are a complete waste of money that builds nothing for the future.

mokaubach, Dec 8, 6:17am
You are right about track length, HD is plenty long enough, checkout the length of many of the Aussie Tracks. If temporary stands can be erected in Hamilton, why not HD!. This whole sorry saga smacks of private agendas and egos getting in the way of common sense.

rednsr, Dec 8, 6:22am
Hampton downs are currently putting together a proposal to put in front of v8sc early next year. They are looking to stage the event in 2013.

geedubu, Dec 8, 6:58am
Hampton Downs is a terrific facility and all petrolheads should be unified in supporting this brave venture.

mokaubach, Dec 8, 7:17am
Dead right!

dr.doolittle, Dec 8, 7:49am
I couldn't agree more. As long as that support is proportional to your interest in motorsport.
Maybe charge the competitors more & say $1000 a head at the gate. pay-per-view a couple of hundred!
