This is my first ever thread in Motoring. I usually hang out in General, ChChEQ (was living there until April) or Pets and Animals Say Hi if you ever see me around !

I have a 1973 super beetle as a daily driver, and all I can say is for those who are looking at getting a beetle, try not to wade into the purchase with high expectations. On one hand they are great fun, head turners, easy to work on and everyone has something nice to say about them. On the other hand when people rabbit on about how reliable they are, they forget that a beetle was very reliable compared with cars of its day, they are not tops on reliability compared with a modern car. You need to feed it constant but minor maintenance to keep it running tip-top (nothing hard to be honest) and be prepared to shell out the bucks on replacing worn out parts. They are noisy, they can be smelly depending on exhaust condition, they are surprisingly comfortable for what they are but not a patch on a modern car. I love my beetle but I think as a daily driver goes it is less than ideal.
