The guy at Woolf Mufflers say he can do it for $200.hmmmm.now the Holden VE V8 pipe needed to cancel out the 115hz frequency is 27.5in.just got to figure out what length pipe is required for the V6 Alloytech engine I have.

What is a "j" pipe when I had my shop we did balance pipes a bit of pipe work will never make up for the shortcomings of a crappy muffler .

gay-panda-guy, Dec 13, 3:30pm
With a J Pipe there is no need for a muffler at all. It removes all cabin drone noise whilst keeping the outside roar.which is what I would like.

A short tube muffler (coby style) plumbed in 1 end only but with the outer end capped off will do the same job.

Proved it on my own car a couple of years ago

I say again - "We learn some good shit in here" That's why I keep looking, and spamming.

Never heard of a 'J pipe' before but there it is in clarkie's #9 post.

cut a jandle up and squeeze it in between any pipes and car where it might be toughing when its vibrating

gay-panda-guy, Dec 13, 6:48pm
OMG that is a good idea.twin mufflers on my V6.theoretically ifblock one muffler it might create the "J Pipe" effect.hmmm.

gay-panda-guy, Dec 13, 6:51pm
Yep thats it.beautiful sounds.no drone but unhindered bark!

wrong2, Dec 13, 7:36pm
a muffler that drones is a badly designed muffler

the mufflers in that quoted thread look absolutly disgusting

& my god what are people doing reccommending cobys, might as well just neuter the poor car & be done with it

The J pipe muffler in the quoted thread is designed quite ingeniously which is why it doesn't drone.

Regarding looks.all people ever see is the tips.

wrong2, Dec 14, 11:31am
yeah but who cares about how sporty the tips look

im talking entry & exit, volumes & line of sight

they look hideous from a performance POV - gawd only knows how gunged up they are on the inside

a muffler doesnt have to hinder the airflow in order to extract the sound

lookoutas, Dec 14, 3:56pm
I'll tell you why.
I've heard the tin-can noise that Flowmaster's (and generic copies) make, and I would line up the sound coming from the Coby's on my V8 against them any day.
Toby Campbell started making Coby's in his Hamilton back shed in the 60's. (I saw it) From then, 50+ years of good old Kiwi development has taken place.

Well in the end spoke to the guys at Woolf Mufflers and they convinced me to simply put on the twin catbacks the V8s use.will try it out when they finish soon.
