the ones that can cut chunks, pipes, nails, etc, uses a vibrating head or something, the ads make it look so simple and fast but has anyone here actually got one yet and if so just how good are they, some outfit is advertising them at 118, gotta be worth a crack! no!

Yes they are great but make sure you dont get a cheap crap as-seen-on-tv. Get a Fien, or for a more reasonably priced option Bosch have them in their DIY and Professional ranges.

I've got a Bosch one, comes with 3 different fittings (all you need). Bloody good machine, but makes a lot of noise. I use mine to cut skirting boards and holes in the gib for power points.

Oh, and the only thing you can't cut is steel, iron etc. But will go through copper and aluminium.

I have one as well. I thought it might be 3 or 4 times a year sort of tool but I have used it at least once a fortnight since buying it 12 months ago. Blades are bloody expensive though. If you get the Bosch, get the one that comes in a kit box and has a few blades and sander pads. About $160 Cheers Stevo

Not recommended for nails. I use a Makita sabre saw for that, not sure if that's their correct name.

I bought the Blue Bosch, I had a look at the parts drawings for the Green Bosch and felt the gearbox could be a bit on the light side, I have been cutting through stainless staples and brass screws with no major problems, the blade I was using is now blunt but new blades on TM are cheap enough

Me too, I have the bosch one, nails are supposed to be O.K so long as you use a good bi-metalic blade. I can tell you in a few days as I have blades on order, someone else is bound to have tried the bi-metalics already though.

The blades just blunten. There are blades available for cutting everything from nails and light metal to softwood and hardwood. I might try the Blue Bosch next time round as its the tradies version

Nope, not a builder, but I do do my own building. Currently adding internal walls in our 120 square metre master bedroom. It's too big, so I'm making 4 rooms out of 1. I also have a rental property in Upper Hutt, did lots of renovations before I let it out. And, I used to have my own heat pump business, so yeah, the Bosch multi tool was very handy indeed.

I've got some joinery to do in the near future which involves cutting out sections of skirting and ceiling moulding - I've been puzzling over how to do this neatly and effectively - will one of these tools do the job without too much collateral damage!
thejazzpianoma,

They are perfect for that. That's what the clip together laminate floor guys use. Instead of removing the skirting they just cut right around it at the height of the floor.

Great - off to Mitre10Mega/Bunnings tomorrow to have a look!
