Ford Prefect would be pleased to see the man had his towel with him. Shame that the aforementioned girl didn't have an opportunity to wipe her hands on it.

I went to Maungatapu Service Station the other day, put $20 petrol in, asked for $5 change and the person behind the counter informed me (so quietly that I couldn't hear him over the noise of the forecourt and the refrigerators so I had to ask twice) that I could only have a minimum of $20.So I took $20, bought a 50c lollipop and said "now you'll give me $5, eh".
It took him more time than the profit on that lollipop to count out the change, and they lost a 30 year customer.

i also cannot see any reason as to why he should of lent her a fuel can,as others have said by the time he fills it with petrol and then she never returns he could be in the gun for 20 bux good on him and as far as the towel wearing comment maybe he has the job because (A) he was prepared to do it (B) non of the welfare bludgers who should of been made to apply could be bothered showing up for the interview

Or C - the servy is now owned by Indians (like one up the road here) and they mostly only hire other Indians.

yes because they trust them to show up,do their shift, and not rip them off by giving gas cans away to all and sundry

Yeah, never mind about the customer service, staff rudeness or fixing things on the forecourt in a timely fashion that don't work.

and this is a result of the race/creed/color of the person behind the counter !

Exactly, was at my usual petrol station lined up a couple months ago waiting to pay, a guy walks in and had the same situation as mentioned by OP, attendant told him their can was 'borrowed' a couple of weeks back and never returned. Lady's fault for not taking notice/pushing it too far when the low fuel light came on.
Also OP is racist, not that it hasn't been mentioned enough already.

I'm embarrassed to admit I ran out of petrol leaving Pak & Save Lower Hutt. Actually ran out 30 metres from their pumps.LOL - But being ancient and feeble was unable to push the car back to fill up. But Max Motors (next door) came to my rescue and lent me a can full of petrol and even told me not to return it.However naturally I did, full to the brim too. Good one Max Motors!.

No, it was a direct result of their new ownership and change of staff.
And it hasn't changed since.
