I have a car that I bought for $100 some years ago, I keep meaning to send it to the scrappy as its properly stuffed. But it keeps getting a WOF and comes in handy now and then to lend to mates or pick up something dirty etc.
Anyhow, I went to start said heap at the gas station one day and it wouldn't. (alternator belt had come loose but not squeeled and light had not come on).
I got out and started to push it out of the way myself when all of a sudden Bam! There is a big African guy (I suspect over for the world cup) pushing the car so hard and fast I had to scramble to get in the seat and crash start it before we hit something!
Anyhow, this pasty white guy who gets tired after hammering a nail or walking to the letterbox was super grateful. Random African dude, I salute you!

+1 , too true sadly, but you do have to admit, you can no longer trust people the way you used to, nowadays if you help people dont expect there "promise" to help you back nor pay you back loans, nor return things in good working condition as you had lent them.

I don't think race has anything to do with this,Service has been lacking at petrol stations for a long, long time.

As per deleted post - I'll bet some previous customer stole the can. You should be blaming them not the poor old attendant.

Unhelpful people exist, race has nothing to do with it, you find good people and bad people in every group. You're just a racist prick. A petrol can alone costs around $10-$20. When people do drive offs or take stuff like fuel cans and not pay, it comes out of the attendants wages. Besides, fuel low level lights and fuel level indicators exist and is visible in every car. If her car ran out of petrol because she didn't put in petrol despite seeing its nearly out of fuel, then its her own fault. Not the attendants fault.

A while back I ran out of gas and had to walk a couple of ks to the station.I figured in this day and age I would have to buy a can ( not borrow) and I was right.
(The lady said " I must warn you these are cheaper at Red Shed." which was good of her. I bought it anyway and later when I checked at red shed the difference was less than $3, nowhere near enough to justify the extra walk!)

Seems a pretty racist comment to me. Was the refusal to loan a petrol can solely because he was a foreigner or was there any other reason!

Last I checked turban wearing was a religious not racial thing.

Most Jap Imports (about 8/10 cars in NZ) have enough few to drive 100km's from the moment the fuel light comes on, so really there's no excuse to run out of fuel, I haven't managed to run out in my 15 years or so of driving, but have got close perhaps. sometimes its a pain in the neck stopping to get fuel, always seems to be a Que of cars there when I want to go :)

Simple reason why BP (I cannot clarify this on Shell's behalf) does not lend out fuel containers is due to the risk of being blamed for fuel contamination.

They should have lent her a can and made her pay a deposit which was refundable on return of the can.Too many cans given out and never returned so why should the service station have to bear the cost.A few dishonest folk ruin it for everyone. What the 'race' of the service station attendant has nothing to do with this problem.dishonest customers is the problem.

Yea, saying he didn't loan her a can because he was "racist" is pretty far fetched. It's obvious he was "gay" & was not interested in her.

Thought it was Zed [ NZ pronunciation ] not Zee [ US pronunciation ]

Dont get me started of that mispronounciation :(Local school teacher speeling of some words and when we heard here saying the alphabet to the kids had to cringe at that. This woman teacher calls herself a educated kiwi.

Guy's "Service" is a word that should no longer be associated with many of the main brand fuel stations. We have countless people in buying replacement petrol caps who have left them at the station. Now in fairness some may have been "found" and collected by other customers however I am sure the stations bin any left. Yes the ones left on the roof will fall off, I see some on the road from time to time but a large number are lost at the pump. If station attendants assisted the filling of cars this could be overcome. I remember back in the old days they came and filled your car for you as part of the price of doing business, profit and cost was also lower them. Obviously the lack of service at Shell Levin should be noted and that station by passed by consumers

the majority of fuel stops no longer loan fuel cans. as i understand it, most stock them for sale.

Not sure about other Z / Shell stations around, but the one in Greville Rd [ Nth Shore, AK ], has a big sign proclaiming that "Forecourt Concierge" [ I kid you not ] service is available during the day. Pretentious prats. LoL

Elect-Its unfair to get upset with the employee doing what they are told to do by upper management. Did the person who made the mistake then ask to BUY a fuel can from the petrol station! I'd say the answer would be no. Don't get me wrong I'm all for doing good things for other people but the orders not to loan cans isn't with the guy behind the counter regardless if he's black/yellow/white or blue with orange polka dots The guy behind the counter is likely on minimum wage and damaged stock/lost comes out of his wages.
