I have pics of several race A40s but none are white with a black roof.I have several from the McLaren Festival, including long nose examples.

One little known fact is that despite the box shape, it was aerodynamically better than many curvy cars of the day.Even now, I wouldn't mind one as a racer, but fear that my days of building or racing another car are numbered, bearing in mind the project V8 still isn't on the road after seven and half years - and my new found addiction to travel.

Indeed socram. I recall reading the A40 had less drag coefficient than an E type jaguar.

Cannot remember the drivers/owners name at present but there was a black one in Blenheim at River Park Motors in the 60's.Got raced at Levin. There used to be a shot of it spinning out at Cabbage Tree corner on the sports news.I think it was similary speced to Grants one.

Name just came to me Pat Pascoe

That's who I think still has it in Nelson. Could be mistaken though.

I see K.Grant and I think A.K. Grant.

muzz67, Jan 2, 1:04pm
is that a titty pun! And yes, Pat Pascoe is correct.

twink19, Jan 2, 1:29pm
x1
look how close the spectators are to the track in rsr72 photos, cant do that any more.
sure the car was at Hampton Downs last year. It could be at BMW festival in January.

Cheers for those photos rs.

See in the latest NZV8 where a guy brought a mint 1 lady owner Mustang, only to find after a tyre blew and wrecked the rear guard, instigating an all over do-up, that it's a bogged up ex race car. Then the pricks finished the story, until next issue.
I'm picking it has to be the Rod Coppins car, As Paul Fahey's car is in Oz.

jrlaw, Jan 2, 6:57pm
Pat Pascoe has the second A 40. I have had a chat with him on the phone, very nice guy to talk with, He brought the car for a guy name Mullins some years back. it has had a body chop so is a bit lower than it used to be. Gives it a bit of ago still. Thanks for all who helped finding the A 40.

woodsy2, Jan 2, 7:06pm
I think the first A40 was financed by Len Southward. Len bought the Lotus Cortina for Kerry.

lookoutas, Jan 2, 7:08pm
Sorry - it wasn't a 1 lady owned car, it was owned by a lady.

Similar story to the guy in the States who brought a 71 Mustang off E-Bay as a driver while he restored his valuable 71 Boss. Planning also to swap any parts that were better than the Boss, only to discover that it was the prototype 71 302 Boss - re-engined (under instructions from Ford) with a 2V 351, rebadged and issued with a new Code #
Now this car would be worth more than the proper Boss.

The guy in NZ was deemed to have paid too much in 1988, but he's also on a winner now. I would say that little A40 would have a good value to it as well.

twink19, Jan 2, 7:21pm
I thought Roger Townsendin Dunedin owned the Fahey car

kokako14, Jan 2, 7:35pm
Check out those photos from Puke. (Post #16) isnt the track looking so different now.
Not much between the cars and the crowd in those days

lookoutas, Jan 2, 8:11pm
Last I heard it was in Oz - but I hope you're right.
Edit: Ah - which car! I don't think it's the first one.

The Red Dawson 35 car was in Oz, but that's back in the Naki now.

twink19, Jan 2, 8:33pm
sure he has the FVA Escort and one of the Capris

the-lada-dude, Jan 3, 5:50am
i know paul fahey had a fva escort, and i'm bloody sure he brought in a fvc powered mk 1 escort.
jezz what a machine that was

socram, Jan 3, 2:27pm
Roger Townsend has one quad cam Capri and Mike John (he just sold a half share) has the other. Both were out for the McLaren Festival.

twink19, Jan 3, 4:38pm
theone Mike had is not en ex Fahey car, he bought that one in the UK, has sold the other half now.

the-lada-dude, Jan 4, 8:44am
wow, what a wicked looking escort that was !
i'm sure there were two fva / fvc escorts racing in nz
might have been the haliday brothers
or the spears !

jrlaw, Jan 4, 9:24am
Kerry's first race car ! was a Morris series 8, 2nd was a Anglia 100E, 3rd Austin Farina ( built when he was at Selwyn Motors (P.N.) 4th Austin Farina built at Commercal Motors(P.N.)then he raced with a Cortina Mk 1 helped by Len Southward, it had a push rod engine in it, Then I seem to remember he raced a Open racer was it a Brabham! till he was burnt in a crash in Auckland area. I think that would be as correct I can remember. Long time ago of course.!

rsr72, Jan 4, 9:44am
Yep, the Cortina was raced with a pushrod engine. Many think it had a twincam.

tigra, Jan 4, 11:05am
Peter Bennet used to race a very fast A40 at Levin and elsewhere around about the same time. Murray Charles also built one up.
