never even driven a 300z but imagine the 5th is drivers knee and forward, reverse is drivers knee and back, so the selector you're looking for is passenger side and front, ( there will be 3 distinct shafts, looking at the exploded view the left side shaft is actually 2 shafts in common lay, the O/D selector will be the rear half of that shaft while the reverse will be the front half of that shaft) restricted travel would indicate something in that area has moved or broken and is now locking the main shifter from moving to it's limit or limiting that shaft from travel

Nah skin, they are the same as a terrano box by the look and have one shaft going inside then the three rails and selector are right in the guts. Even if you take the top plate off at the back, it won't show much.
So Bambi. are you sure there have been no other symptoms! Noises, vibrations, hard to engage gears! fifth in particular.

no other symptoms, but has always being stiff going into reverse, but never showed sign of getting worse, sitting here typing as bf talks

Have you checked the oil level!
They are a prick of a box to work on. It takes two men to hold them while you put them together and that is the least of the problems. Having said that, the last one I did only cost about eight hundred for all the bearings and the one synchro that was needed. labor included.

That is at the back and near the top plate, but it's just a spring loaded detent. unless it's as dry as a bone I'd doubt it could do it. It can be unscrewed and taken right out easily though. worth a go.

ok still havent fixed car, and now the dash lights are gone tail lights and normal lights indicators, and high beams working fine grrr

gee thankz, im really stressing out, and dont have enuff money to take to get fixed, y would these lights not work! i have checked fuses
