the monkeys that sell the wheels dont care or dont know the correct fitting etc, they just want the sale

johnf_456, Feb 10, 9:07am
Yup, but nothing wrong with going with say steelies to factory alloys for example. Some cars have 14" steel then 15" factory alloy, its the same as they were factory. I agree over sized wheels with dumb size tyres is just plain dumb.

tootsie9, Feb 10, 10:03am
I bought them off trademe. I must stress these are 2nd hand wheels. Maybe I worded wrong in my first post. I was meaning new to me. Sorry all for the confusion

tootsie9, Feb 10, 10:04am
As I say they are 2nd hand factory alloys

tootsie9, Feb 10, 10:05am
Wheels are still tight but have only done about 20km

tootsie9, Feb 10, 10:07am
Each to their own I would say but my wheels actually don't stick out etc like dogs balls they are just out of my guards and the truck hasn't got flares either.

johnf_456, Feb 10, 10:08am
Picture before and after would explain it all.

tootsie9, Feb 10, 10:09am
I would but dont have before pics and I don't know how to put photos on here.

johnf_456, Feb 10, 10:14am
Or put the wheels side by side, you put images via the my images on trademe under my trademe.

tootsie9, Feb 10, 10:21am
I don't have my old wheels anymore as I got the tyres taken off and put on my rims I just got.

tootsie9, Feb 10, 11:03am
Did you see the pics

pdc1, Feb 10, 4:46pm
How did you get on today tootsie!
Tell us what you wheel nuts look like. Are they like a nut with a taper on the end, or does it have a spigot on it with the taper /or flat washer above it. If it is this type which I think it probably should be, is the spigot a good fit in the wheel!
Whilst I suspect that your hubcaps might be the main cause to your problem, you could have 2 or 3 problems as well that need sorting to make it totally safe! Don't just assume you have one problem.

tootsie9, Feb 10, 8:59pm
They are just tapper ones. been for a drive checked nuts. still tight

tootsie9, Feb 10, 9:01pm
The wheels were off a surf which center bore is 108mm and my terrano is 100mm so with the hubcaps and design of wheel I am guessing as earlier poster said that the lip was compressing.

icemans1, Feb 10, 9:01pm
monkeys work in tyre shops.

tootsie9, Feb 10, 9:03pm
Up here i think they are more baboons than monkeys

supernova2, Feb 10, 11:57pm
So you put Toyota wheels on a Nissan and expect them to fit!No wonder you have problems.IfI was the tyre fitter I would have told you to go away and get some other fool to do the job.Really some people should not be allowed to own vehicles let alone drive them.

tootsie9, Feb 11, 5:41am
I have done this with many vehicles I have owned before and have never had this problem before. So that remark is utter crap!

johnf_456, Feb 11, 6:13am
Just because its been safe in the past, no way makes it safe this time.

mrfxit, Feb 11, 6:16am
Oh FFS, Frick off numnuts.
You clearly know bugger all about wheels . never mind 4x4 wheels

mrfxit, Feb 11, 6:25am
Cr*p
Been there done that many many times over many years.
Rims designed for tapper nuts will fit perfectly fine on any hub as long as the rim center is the same size or bigger.
Rims made for tapper nuts are called "lugcentric" = the nuts CENTER the rim on the hub
The hub center & rim center bore matching is a good idea but NOT a MUST have.
In the history of motor vehicles, it's a fairly new idea to increase safety of wheel fittment.
How the heck to you think we got on with the older cars before matching center hub/wheel holes come about.

Having matching hub centers also allows for thinner/shorter studs & thinner hubs = better suspention performance = less manufacturing costs

mrfxit, Feb 11, 6:28am
Agreed^
I think theres a basic 25mm max allowence/discretion for tyre protrusion

mrfxit, Feb 11, 6:33am
The ONLY times I have known of or seen problems is with ppl fitting HUGE oversize wheels for THAT perticuler vehicle & or doing some very stressfull activitys, (burnouts/ hoon rallying, dipshites in general)

Proviso of course that the wheels have the correct nuts fitted & done up correctly.

Any wheels I fit, ALWAYS have at least 2 extra nuts to tighten (halfway to a full turn extra around the hub) = 4 stud = 6 to 8 studs to tighten

johnf_456, Feb 11, 7:03am
Utter crap, if you read what I was saying it was a generic statement. Saying just because you fitted in the past without doing your homework doesn't make it ok EVERY TIME to spell it out. Utter bollocks, thats my point reading before spouting your mouth. Nothing wrong with changing wheels provided its done properly and proper pro advice is taken and followed IMHO.

mrfxit, Feb 11, 7:09am
AND your point is . .
Better read both my statements in context to each other
