Here's one for all you Cyclist Haters

I was out for my daily bicycle ride today (me - bright clothing on, quiet rural road, close to the kerb) when a Nissan SUV with two males in it slowed down beside me and the passenger (20 something white guy) yelled at me "Get a decent hobby!". I gave him a friendly wave and a smile. That obviously riled him as he then gave me the middle fingered salute. I stopped and wrote down their rego - the driver will get a Police letter for driving too close to a cyclist. He who laughs least.

Police wont do anything, your word against his,

mrfxit, Jan 6, 2:23am
BUT, he will still get the warning letter ;-)

hotrodtodd1, Jan 6, 2:24am
Good luck with that Troggy. Theres no need for us drivers to be arseholes to cyclists who are doing nothing wrong

msigg, Jan 6, 2:56am
No he won't get a letter, and trog hope you weren't speeding .

kazbanz, Jan 6, 3:01am
Hey troggy--most of us aint cyclist haters. It just irks that it isn't a level playing feild when it comes to roading costs and ACC costs.
THEN the millitant cyclists leap up beating their chests saying that they DO pay etc etc when THAT MEANS OF TRANSPORT pays nothing to road costs or ACC yet the riders expect to be treated as lord and masters of the road.
-- SAME OLD STORY--some screw it up for most.
Incidently--ONYA--yea report the vehicle -Thats not on

gadgit3, Jan 6, 3:32am
I'm all for getting out there and enjoying the seens on a cycle but as kaz has pointed out it's the mynority that blows it for the rest.
I hate cyclists on the Thames coast road. there realy is not enough room on that road for two cars to pass and give 1.5m clearance to a cyclist.
I have on may occations had to stop or crawl behind a bike because traffic on the oppsite side of the road was thick, yet I would have been able to travle at normal speeds if there was no bike. almost hit a few with the trailer too. Not on purpose lol

joanie32, Jan 6, 4:03am
Or youcould go tell their mum on them.then theyll get in even bigger twubble. ummmmmmmmmmm!

moosie_21, Jan 6, 4:26am
Now that you have the rego go find his address and etch into his Nissan on one side: "I do have another hobby." and on the other "Pissing off a***holes like you".

trogedon, Jan 6, 5:07am
Hey, that's not a bad idea. I usually don't take these Fruitcakes seriously and today was no exception. I agree with you guys re 'us' holding up traffic. Some riders need a gentle toot to get them to move over.

foxdonut, Jan 6, 5:38am
Looks like we've finally found the TM Motoring nark.

lalbagh, Jan 6, 5:48am
The only issue i have with cyclists is lack of accountability. 7am Newmarket, I stop at a red, cyclist simply sails through almost taking out a youmg lad crossing on the little green man.I pass him before next lights. Next lights, also red, I stop, he simply sails on through. Total disrespect for both the traffic rules and pedestrians. Oh how I wish I could have taken his number plate and reported him- but alas, no plate.
Because of the few utter idiots on cycles who ruin it for the rest, I urge the authorities to make rego plates on cycles mandatory. Cyclists can report me as a car driver for infractions- as OP can with the abusive motorist-but you cannot dob in a cyclist.

bubbles244, Jan 6, 5:49am
Question.push bikes don't have an internal combustion engine. whats this got to do with motoring.!

nz2293, Jan 6, 5:55am
cant of been that close if he had to yell

trouser, Jan 6, 7:17am
Geez that would have been remarkably insulting. Imagine the thought of getting a 'decent hobby'.

owene, Jan 6, 8:26am
What on the basis of the word of a single member of the public!

trogedon, Jan 6, 5:45pm
We can only hope so. Plenty of dicks on the roads - motor or human powered.

studio1, Jan 6, 11:15pm
Situation normal. Seen it for many years, especially in Auckland. They ride like the lights aren't even there - and sail on through regardless of what other traffic is coming through.
I have yelled out at a few of them "Hey mate, don't you know what a red light means!" and usually got the middle finger in return.
The other little trick I have seen is they ride up onto the footpath then ride across the pedestrian crossing and back onto the road on the other side of the intersection - all to avoid that nasty red light!

johnf_456, Jan 6, 11:32pm
Yip we need a way to nab them especially since they have accidents just like anyone on the road. I too yell at them.

74nova, Jan 7, 12:00am
Yeah right ! Do that and see what reaction you get from the gay cyclist.

richard198, Jan 7, 1:31am
Oh yes! I got a letter because a single member of the public didn't like my overtaking move (they were daydreaming and got a shock when they woke up!). I ignored the letter and nothing happened.

trogedon, Jan 7, 3:45am
The Nissan Safari shouldn't even have been on the road - rego expired in July and WOF expired in March.

owene, Jan 7, 6:15am
So make a formal written complaint about that and the cops will prosecute. But remember that your name and address will appear on the summons!

big.b-lil.c, Jan 7, 7:32am
the guy that did that was a (insert you know what word here) he would be the same (word) on foot, on a bike or head first down a long drop. he just wanted to be little someone unfortunately today it was you.

jmma, Jan 7, 7:37am
UUmmm expired WOF, you got a problem with that (o:
