there is something distinctly special about the atmosphere/nostalgia/history of an iconic car like an original gtho that not everyone gets.

these cars have changed hands for huge amounts of dosh.

if you don't think it worth the money, and/or you don't have the money, then chances are someone else will buy it.

just because you don't 'get' something doesn't mean your ideas are necessarily any better

thunderbolt, Jan 26, 2:30am
I have found a negative,

In 40 yrs time, this will be worth nothing, unlike the car you are comparing it to.

sifty, Jan 26, 2:39am
well said the above two posters.

friendly_prawn, Jan 26, 2:46am
Nope wrong. By then we will well and truly be out of oil and the only thing that old bomb will be good for is a musem piece.

richardmayes, Jan 26, 2:53am
And the flipside of that is, just because you buy into the hype, doesn't mean your ideas are necessarily any better, either!

richardmayes, Jan 26, 2:56am
In 40 years' time, all the people who saw the GTHO doing its thing in its heyday will be dead.

There will probably still be a few people around who know what it is, but whether they will see the value of a good house in it, I don't know. Do you know!

bellky, Jan 26, 2:56am
agree with you. however what you call 'buying into the hype' i call a 'strong feeling of appreciation'

richardmayes, Jan 26, 3:03am
Absolutely. And one day if I have a spare $500k I'll probably buy into some motoring hype too. but it will be a different make, model & year of hype.

"supercar"

hahaha

owene, Jan 26, 3:37am
Investment! If it's this type of investing that you need then go to the gee gees.

socram, Jan 26, 3:43am
I'll probably be catching up with the person building it tomorrow. I'll ask him what the current status is as I didn't see it the last time I was in the workshop or it may hav ebeen under a dustsheet. I can't remember who it was being built for either!
From memory, it was using many original parts too and is not a replica.I seem to remember my best pal having a Cheetah slot car (made by Cox possibly!) and it was a quick one.I rather like the Cheetah too!
Squint and from the side, it is not too much unlike my car either - though mine is not as brutal!

This makes an interesting read, i think at $500k its a bargain, If I had the cash I would own it tomorrow. Considering a 57 Testarossa sold for 12m and I recently saw a 65 GT40 for 2.5m it has to be the buy of the week. It is probably a better investment than bricks and mortar.

sanremo, Jan 26, 4:58am
I bet it has terrible gas milage.

granada, Jan 26, 5:02am
If you want economy then buy a corolla

rustihammer, Jan 26, 5:12am
Nice.I want it.The bank won't let me though.

fordcrzy, Jan 26, 5:12am
no
easy answer

fordcrzy, Jan 26, 5:18am
you could build a 347 injected 6 speed 67 fastback dynacorn Mustang with an RRS suspension kit and leather interior for a third of what that car is going for.i know what i'd rather have.

sifty, Jan 26, 7:11pm
me too. and it's the shaky old coon.

pfemstn, Jan 26, 8:49pm
i would be one of the few who have driven both anxw, and an xy both gtho models in the 1970,s when they were near new! i can understand the hype surrounding these cars and why they sell for so much money! sure you can build a replica these days and it probably will be quicker, with advances in technology, but it will never be the same!

socram, Jan 27, 1:19am
