Well clubs & smallpubs use kegsbut they are brewery filled& need the c02 gear to go with it ( its flat ) & cant hire it .

There are heaps of ways of serving beer from a keg, simple hand pumps are normally stocked by liquor stores that do kegs, or you could go with the 2-tap chillbin style pourers with the chilling coils inside.
BTW, commercial beer isn't flat in the keg, otherwise it'd take days (if not weeks) to carbonate it - I have 20L kegs for my homebrew and it takes a good week or two to carbonate those at normal serving pressure. CO2 is used to keep the kegs under pressure, and to serve the beer.

What about 1 keg & a modest mix of cans/ bottles of different brands
Nothing worse then half a keg left to go flat because all the drinkers are already flat on their backs.
