What are the disadvantages of switching to synthetic! I have heard that if you have an oil weep, using synthetic can exacerbate it. My car doesnt leak oil or drip at all, but there is a small amount of weepage around the valve cover and distributor seal. I'd rather like to keep this at bay.

Andy got to agree with you on amsoil used it in my racecar for a long time no bearing failures gearlube was tops as well one oil for both lsd and gear box I used to rebuild the lsd every season and the clutch packs were getting expensive, didnt need to touch them any where near as often just a tear down and reassemble.Previously I used penzoil and the engine only had an operating parameter of about 10 degrees c, either side of that and I would run a crank bearing.

No disadvantages I can think of. Valve cover may just need tightening (no need to torque) or at the most, a new seal. Very cheap and easy to DIY. Distributor seal! Either replace it (just a gasket I presume!) and use a good quality sealant. The red sealant (Cant remember exact name)available from most auto stores is bloody good and doesn't actually require the use of a paper gasket in most basic, low pressure situations. I wouldn't use it for replacing a head gasket;) But perfect for thermostat housings and in your case, around the dizzy.

It is most likely the o ring on the distributor shaft seal, a cheap fix and very easy to get. When cars get older it is more common for them to leak through the dizzy. But then again I don't help apparently.
My mistake its actually weeping from below the cylinder sensor. A small amount of weepage around here is relatively normal (as I said its not enough to cause a drip). I imagine it may slowly get worse and it looks like its an o ring on the shaft, similar to the dizzy so I'll look into it in the future, I'll also give the valve cover a little tweak to see if that helps. Thanks for the tips
