I have on occasions (mainly when I've owned BMWs), failed wofs. However, my stance is that the wof is mainly about car safety. I value my safety and that of my family, so I never gripe about getting repairs done.

Find a local garage and always go there.Once they get to know the car and its foibles you are sweet.Never ever go to VTNZ or anyone large,.Small, you get personal and proper service,,ie, you aren't just a number. You get to say "Gidday Bob,,.Hey Tony,".Cannot beat the personal touches.
